Working For The Weekend

Good evening, folks. It’s a cold start to the weekend, but the weather is looking MUCH better as spring surges back in. This kicks off another milder than normal pattern that looks to move in for the long haul. That pattern also turns rather stormy.

Let’s start with the evening and roll ahead. A few flurries and snow showers will be likely across the east and southeast. Local accumulations will be possible in a few spots, especially in the high mountains. Here is your regional radar…

Saturday continues to look awesome with highs in the upper 40s to middle 50s with mostly sunny skies taking over. Sunday is even better with highs in the 60s!

I mentioned this is a very mild pattern. The 7 day temperature anomaly from the EURO shows temps way above normal…

This is also a setup that can lead to waves of showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall during the same time period from the EURO…

As mentioned, this is a warmer than normal pattern for the long haul. The GFS Ensembles show this well…

Enjoy your evening and take care.

I hope the SE Ridge flexes more muscle and continues to shift the rain further west and give us a dry, warm few weeks to help dry things out. Of course I don’t want that to happen if it leads to another April 2007 Blackout. Already looking a little less rainy and warmer in SE KY than just a few days ago. First 80 before St Patrick’s?! That is my bold prediction for the near term. I see 80 happening:)

My first 80 degree high of 2020 was back on 1/11/20. I still haven’t seen any flakes today but didn’t expect to anyway.

Oh yeah, lol. I forgot about that. A few of us hit 80, especially in WVA. I stayed at 77 during that day but insane still for January. Only a few flakes here. With a Winter Weather Advisory, one would expect some precip at least but this was a bust for the mt peaks, still bare so no way they get 2 to 4 inches tonight, dusting at best up there!

It wouldn’t surprise me to have a 90 degree day by the end of the month. Especially the way the weather has been the last several years.
