Good Saturday everyone. We have another awesome weather day taking shape across the commonwealth of Kentucky today. Pleasant temps and fair skies will be the rule as we turn our attention toward some chilly changes for the week ahead. It’s looking more and more like that change will be introduced by heavy rains early in the week.
High temps today will run in the 70s across the entire state. Skies will be partly sunny, but I will keep an eye on far southern Kentucky for a little more in the way of clouds. Those clouds have a tiny shot at spitting out a shower.
Clouds will begin to increase from southwest to northeast Sunday as a moisture laden system begins to work our way. Some late day showers will be possible… especially in the west and south. Rain and thunderstorms will increase on Monday and carry us into early Tuesday as low pressure works through here. There is likely to be a swath of 1″-3″ rains setting up across our region. It appears this corridor may include much of central and eastern Kentucky. The NAM is a little more bullish for the entire state…
That kinda looks like a winter setup, doesn’t it? Check out the plunge of chilly air diving in here late Tuesday. The numbers from that run of the NAM shows temps in the 20s as far south as Iowa by Tuesday morning. Wow. That same surge of chill MAY produce some upper 30s around here Wednesday morning.
That’s the start of some very chilly shots of air targeting the eastern half of the country over the next few weeks. The European Model shows these blasts…
It really doesn’t get much colder looking than those maps during the month of September. The idea of an early season frost threat put out here a few weeks ago is looking better and better by the day.
Have a great Saturday and take care.
my house has been getting pounded by acorns the past few weeks, Is that a sign of a bad winter? i know last year that there was very few that fell.
We have a huge oak tree behind our house and this year the acorns are being taken away almost as soon as they hit the ground. I am finding the caps but no nuts! Last year it was like walking on marbles – nobody wanted the acorns.
Last year we had a bumper crop of black walnuts but this year they are very sparse. I almost fell when I walked under the black walnut trees last year. As opposed to walking on marbles, it was more like baseballs! I can walk without fear this year.
i have seen alot of the caps aswell also little pieces laying around from where they have chewed on them, but i can set in my livingroom and hear them hitting the house like crazy!!!!
I am also finding chewed up bits of the nuts, which I’ve never seen in past years. What’s going on??
yea that is what i am seeing too, that is why i was wondering if that was a sign of something to come or not? i am ready for some big SNOWS this winter!
Hey Chris…I have seen mentioned a couple of times that there would be thoughts, forecast, etc. on the upcoming Winter but so far, I have not seen anything; what gives?
Good morning, Chris, and fellow weather lovers. Thanks, Chris, for the heads up on cooler temps. Looks like I am going to have to go digging for some long sleeved stuff to wear to work. Glad today is shaping up as a nice one. Sounds like we had better enjoy if, as it might not be as nice temperature wise for a bit.
Have a GREAT Saturday, all. Thanks, Chris, for all you do, And,
GO BIG BLUE! (That covers the Cats, and the LWC Blue Raiders) 😉
Are we sure about the rain? I can not help but notice that forecasting for rain for the second half of the year has been almost as dubious as the snow forecasts. Given rain is easier to forecast than snow accumulation, what does this bode for weather models trying to forecast snow?
CB rules, but it seems the models drools.
Agree with you on that, great post!
Me thinks we shall see rinse & repeat for this winter. Seems the consistent misses the models have endured through the years have not been adjusted to account for their shenanigans. 😉
Who knows, maybe the once the models will say we will get little or nothing and instead we get something.
You guys do realize that most areas of the state have picked up 4″ or more over the past two weeks. This is the no spin zone! 😉
