Good Thursday everyone and thanks for dropping by KWC. A winter storm is blasting the middle part of the country today and this system will have an impact on our weather. A mixed bag of precipitation will move eastward across the state today into tonight. This could be just enough to cause a few problems before we see a switch to rain later tonight and Friday morning.

Here’s a breakdown of what I’m expecting…

– Western Kentucky will see the wintry mix early today and that will likely be in the form of sleet and freezing rain with a few snowflakes. Some travel troubles are possible in this area.

– Central and eastern Kentucky will see thickening clouds into the afternoon with highs in the low to mid 30s.

– A mix of rain, sleet, freezing rain and some snow will overspread the state late afternoon into the evening. That will continue into the overnight. Here’s a look at what I’m expecting…

Special

– That may be enough to cause some icy spots on area roads… especially bridges and overpasses.

– Temps will rise quickly by Friday morning and thermometers will surge well into the 50s during the day on a gusty southwesterly wind. A leftover shower will be possible.

The rest of the weekend will find colder air filtering in for Saturday as a big storm cranks along the east coast. That could throw a chilly shower into our region at some point during the day. A chilly wind will blow as highs come down into the upper 30s and low 40s for Saturday with mid and upper 40s Sunday.

Our next storm will move our way by Monday and Tuesday and will usher in another dramatic change. Showers and a rumble of thunder will be possible ahead of this system on Monday. Much colder air will then sweep in Monday night and Tuesday as some snow starts to fly. More on that in over the next few days.

I leave you with some tracking toys…
