Good Thursday afternoon, everyone. A Winter Weather Advisory is now out for many areas of the bluegrass state into the overnight hours. A wintry mix of sleet, snow, freezing rain and rain will continue to work eastward later today into this evening.
Much of this will transition to a period of light freezing rain before going over to all rain later tonight. Some light icing is possibleΒ for the counties included in the Advisory…
Slick travel may develop this evening into the overnight hours… especially on bridges and overpasses.
Follow the wintry mess…
Current Temperatures
I will have updates as needed and the very latest on WKYT-TV starting at 4. Enjoy the rest of the day and take care.
Dome..dome…dome…that’s all I gotta say about that!! .lol
ugh….banging head on wall- this is crazy. This storm blasts just west of us and come to KY and the usual happens. Honestly though, the big pink blob on radar coming this way looks worse that what is being forcasted for central/south central ky. Is it just going to evaporate?
….or if not evaporate…turning to rain I guess later tonight.
….or….dry slot now on radar.
Re: Robins mentioned in an earlier blog post:
Pat, they have returned to my yard too. Here’s a link from Cornell:

I have robins here year round. Maybe that article was talking about up north. I’ve always seen robins in the winter months here. The outside cats have been feasting on them all winter. Find body parts here and there lol.
Maybe my robins and Pat’s robins migrate to your place for the Winter . . .
Some light sleet just started here. Not sure of the temp
Looks ugly in Western KY right now. Would not want to be driving in that direction. This is one time I won’t mind to see rain. Do NOT wish ice on anyone. But I must say, I am enjoying the sunshine we have right now. If you must travel this afternoon and evening when all this stuff starts, please be careful!
Unbelievable!!! Says thunderstorm with 30Β°F? I didn’t know that was possible? There were severe thunderstorm warnings too! I’m glad I’m not in Arkansas where they can get up to 2in of ice.

this sucks driving toward Evansville right now
This is crazy. A huge snowstorm slams into Kansas and Missouri, but in Kentucky the temperatures warm up and is mostly rain..
Winter is not allowed here.
Agreed Bill.
NWS now moving the Ice possibilities further north, good this would only produced more salt than ice accumulation anyway π
what’s with the temps today? 5-10 degrees warmer than expect, any chance we miss the ice all together?
I just read something that amazes me.
The last time Kansas City had 12+ inches of snow from a storm was 1962 – over 50 years ago!
KY has had 30 inches a few times since then, puts are complaining about snow in perspective !
snow and sleet in Evansville, roads have slick spots expescially west of Evansville.
by the way I forgot what snow looks like
Evansville Indiana?
Is that where you live?
no I live in Louisville I am driving back from Evansville on I 64 at this moment the road is okay. the higher elevations on the road sometimes has some snow and ice on it
the Winter Nazi is in charge of ladling out our weather. “NO SNOW FOR YOU!”
Can we not get a big snow this winter??
Yes- we can not π
Will barely miss this in Owensboro…again! We’ve had some sleet and snow today but will miss out on the white stuff by about 50 or so miles…as usual. π
To each his own. I hate cold and snow equally. Makes for dangerous travel and a giant sloppy mess. Thats all its good for around here. Never seen anyone ski in KY.
I could be wrong but I’m thinking winter is pretty much over we might get a occasional flurry maybe a snow shower but any real accumulating snow just don’t see happening.
This winter has the substance of Seinfeld (none) and the repetition of the movie Groundhog Day. Seinhog π
“This is going to be a shame.”
Once again, view the awesome power of the Kentucky river. This time for a good cause- little to no ice. The advisory cuts off right on it.
Versailles seems to be all rain right, albeit light. 34 degree. What a waste of perfectly god moisture.
I am retiring my snow dancing boots for the season. They must be broke…
Big snow coming next week π
you are so funny.
…but next week never comes.
30 deg outside now so will we get rain/snow/sleet? Or nothing! Lol
Light freezing rain here in Frankfort temp 32!
Heavy Sleet here in Elizabethtown. Been coming down about 30 mnutes and patio, walks, deck, etc are totally white! Ground slick also. We were not in any advisory area!
proves the weather folks are stumped on the amount of colder air at surface!
Sleeting and freezing rain here in west Lexington.
More sleet though
I’m in the living room at my computer desk beside the big living room window and sleep is bashing against it hard. Temp is 31.
sleet – not sleep.
GRRRRR
Good thing the temps are mid 30’s or we could be in trouble. Rain is falling heavy with a little sleet. This could be megatrouble if a few degrees colder.
It is ice, but not accumulating much. Winning! π
I don’t know where the temps are coming from for accuweather and weather.com, but our thermometer here in Lexington was reading 32 about an hour ago and is now down to 28! — sleeting heavily and already a thin layer of ice on the front walk and porch. Hope it doesn’t get much uglier. Reminds me of the start of the 2003 ice storm!
North Richmond is 34 degrees and mid to heavy rain with some sleet mixed. Ice went away quick. COOOLLLD rain. Seems a few degrees north from ice storm lameness.
BTW, not sure what some are saying about ice rain in Richmond in the tweets. No ice accumulation here. Just cold rain. I was about to say cold miserable rain, but ice would be miserable.
Our streets definitely have puddles, so no real accumulation to speak of there, but our walks and porch have a nice layer of “ice” — more like nice layer of sleet pellets about 1/4 inch in depth or so. Deep enough that I could stomp my feet in to get balance. Craccuweather jumped from 33 degrees in Lex to 37… no idea where they’re getting that, weather.com now has us at 30 which is probably closer to actuality. Ours still says 28. It feels much colder though! BRR.
Ice in my part of Richmond. Lots of little ice pellets earlier tonight and again now. Enough to coat the driveway and sidewalks. Strange stuff…
Temp down to 30 in east Frankfort, a think the NWS overplayed the warm air war earlier, the cold is hanging in their so far, freezing rain is icing things up a bit!
i have a friend that lives in St louis, when i talked to her earlier they had 8 inches of snow and it was still coming down, man why cant we get a GOOD snow like that!!!!!!
I agree…it actually makes me sort of sad. Where is some winter for us?
where i am at in ky i have had abt 9 inches of snow this winter so has been better then last year!
The Iceman Cometh…..sees KY…..runs away with tail between legs. The end.
Temp is holding at 21, this is going to be bad.
