Good Wednesday, folks. Your friendly weatherdude is dropping by for another update on the increasing threat for wintry weather this Halloween weekend.
At this point, it’s pretty much a given that the first flakes of the season will fly. The question becomes, can we get some accumulations? The short answer is yes… for some.
It’s October and we still have a wet ground so a lot of what falls will melt. That doesn’t mean we can get some slushy accumulation on elevated and grassy surfaces. Here’s my first threat outlook…
Areas across southeastern Kentucky have the potential to pick up more than just a grassy coating. The potential is there for some decent totals, especially in the mountains. The WPC has the area highlighted for the potential of 4:+ of snow…
The latest run of the NAM went a little overboard with totals down there…
I am nowhere near ready to buy anything like that, but I will keep watching the progression of this vigorous system. It’s a very extreme setup that can lead to extreme weather for some.
The latest GFS snowfall forecast is a little more spread out with the flakes…
Take care.
just seeing SNOW in the air is grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat this early..
Just seems crazy to be looking at those maps in Oct. when it was in the 80s a couple days ago.
Said it before and I’ll say it again, I wouldn’t live anywhere else but these beautiful mountains.. Enjoyed the colors this week and now looking forward to a surprise early snowfall!
I always get so excited to see the first snowflakes of the season.I feel like a kid with anticipation until it arrives.Something so soothing and beautiful when the first snow comes even if it doesn’t stick.
Maybe some of the towns will consider changing T or T to Thursday night instead of Friday or Saturday. The wind chills won’t be pleasant to be outside those nights especilly for children.
Thanks for the more frequent updates,Chris.
Chris, I usually love reading snowfall forecasts. However, I’m not hardly ready for that kind of cold yet. I’m enjoying fall temps! Guess I better get the big coat cleaned soon!
Thanks Chris for all you do and your dedication. We are so very lucky to have you!
Thank you CB for your dedication and hard work!
