Happy Sunday, folks. I wanted to drop by with a few thoughts on what I think is a wintry pattern taking shape over the next few weeks. It appears mother nature is skipping November and heading straight into December or January.

The forecast for the week ahead hasn’t changed. Milder air moves in for Monday into Tuesday ahead of a wet weather maker for the middle of the week. A fairly potent storm looks to develop across the eastern part of the country by Thursday. Much colder air comes in behind this and gives us the potential for some snow and rain showers by Thursday night into Friday…

GFSThis is a pretty decent shot of chill that goes all the way into the deep south…

GFS 3 The air mass isn’t of arctic origin like what we just had, but it should still be marginal enough for some snow chances. Watch the model temp forecasts grow colder as we get closer.

Another system looks to dive in over the weekend with another shot of rain and snow showers…

GFS 2This is all likely setting the stage for the potential of widespread arctic cold engulfing much of the country. Check out the European Ensembles temp departures (in Celsius) for the 5-10 day and 10-15 day time periods…

Euro

Euro 2It would appear our Halloween weekend snow and cold may actually go down as the start of the 2014/15 winter. That’s pretty incredible when you think about it.

I will have another update this evening. Take care.
