Good Wednesday everyone and a big thanks for dropping by the blog. The first few days of March have been rather ugly across the state as our cold winter rolls on. Today will be no different as the chill of a long winter hangs on. Many of you know I am a fan of winter… but I am ready for spring! Once we get to the month of March… I would just assume to let the spring time weather roll. I wish that were the case… but true spring weather is going to be in short supply this month and we are likely not done with cold and snow chances.
Some areas will be seeing those snow chances today as snow showers and flurries dance about the air across parts of eastern and southeastern Kentucky. This can lay down another minor accumulation… mainly early this morning and you can track the scattered stuff here…
Highs today will continue to run WELL below normal with mainly 30s. Thursday could still feature a few flurries or snow showers early across the east as some sunshine returns to central and western Kentucky. Highs there will warm into the upper 30s and lower 40s.
Friday will see the milder air really trying to fight in here with 40s across the board with sunny skies.
The weekend will see a taste of spring fighting in here as temps rebound toward the 50s with a shot at 60 for either Sunday or Monday. I am seeing a chink in the weekend pattern trying to show up on some of the models as a weak trough tries to dig in from the north. This could try to delay our warmup a bit by bringing a few clouds in here. Something to keep in mind.
A storm system will roll our way by early and middle of the week and it looks like it is slowing down some. This will bring our next chance for some widespread RAIN showers. We haven’t said that very much this winter, so a little variety will do us good.
Regardless… we are not done with the cold and we are not done with snow chances as the middle and end of March should feature more of both. I know… it’s a little depressing.. but everything will be alright…
Crank it up and sing along cause Hootie… uhhh… Darius says so!
I will update things as needed so check back. Until next time… have a great Wednesday and take care.
Cool video. Its not showing it on radar but light snow is falling in Pikeville. On the cars solid Ice,so be safe in the am.
Sorry, but putting a cowboy hat on Darius Rucker doesn’t make him a country singer. The same goes with Taylor Swift. I turn the channel whenever either of those come on the radio.
I am ready for spring too.
Chris, you’re not the only one ready for a little Spring! Can’t wait for this weekend.
Darrius RUCKER is a country singer if he stays true, that alright song is NOT COUNTRY,
but just listen to DONT THINK I DONT THINK ABOUT IT and therte REAL COUNTRY.
Rucker suprised me as he put his mind to being a countery singer and he hasd proved he can do it.
far as TAYLOR SWIFT GOES, 19 years old and has written most of her stuff and it is country songs, HEARTBREAK and stuff.
dont down TAYLOR SWIFT, she a DAMN GOOD WOMAN COUNTRY ARTIST.
ready for spring here as well…I cant wait for the sunshine and 50’s for the weekend..uh,ummm then can we just fast forward on into late april or may. since the rest of this month looks to be nasty and sloppy…
Never, NO SPRING,NO SPRING SNOW,SNOW,SNOW i know I’ve lost it but wait its snowny i be alright now lol
HOOTIE!!! CHRIS!!! Lol…can’t wait for SPRING!! Has anyone ever seen The Shining?….LOL
Hootie blew hard enough when he was with the Blowfish…..couldn’t imagine he could suck worse but…..pop country sux!!
Thanks for all you do Chris! I appreciate it and I like Darius, too!
LOVE THAT MOVIE!!!! For the time that movie was dang creepy. Jack did an amazing job with that character. I could have done without those weird kids though…they really creeped me out. REDRUM…REDRUM!!!
I’m tired of being cold. I’m not liking what Chris is saying about the rest of the month. Mowing sounds so much better than breaking more ice!
Not a fan of Taylor. Her songs are way too “high school” for me.
if 40 and drizzle and gray skies is the best we can do here in nky then i am ready for spring too, i love wearing shorts and tshirts with some sun, but spring as we all know can be very late in really setting in for good in ky 🙁
I’m just going to enjoy each day no matter what the weather…I’ll take whatever comes.
As far as the music goes, imo, the singers are blessed with the talent to sing. I don’t have to like their music
in order to appreciate what they do.
I just wish I could have been given that talent. 🙂
It seems the ground has been wet for the past two months but per the weather page in the Herald-Leader, Lexington is more than two inches behind on rainfall for the year. Al Roker said this El Nino is the fourth strongest in history and that’s why the southern states are getting so much rain. Does that mean a dry spring/summer for us?
I like the movie, but the book is so much better! The movie didn’t really follow the book that closely…
and the way Stephen King wrote in his early books just couldn’t be beat.
Too bad his later books are not that good. Last one I really liked was Insomnia.
I will say this…the last “strong” El Nino I can remember was in the late 90s. And the Springs that followed were filled with severe weather. In fact, one of the most costly T-storms in U.S. history happened in Kentucky coming off of an El Nino Winter.
I’m also ready for spring. Been planning spring and summer weddings which really gets me in the mood to plant flowers. I’m ready for the snow and cold to go…
Just got home snowing in Pikeville at a pretty good pace.I was in Va today and the snow was coming down and sticking.
There were some flakes flying in the Kroger parking lot in Versailles around 2 PM.
FROM THE NWS IN JKL….
Historical Jackson, KY Snowfall for March and April

Well, that’s not what I want to hear but I will choose to look on the bright side and hope that it means we won’t get a high off the southeast coast that rotates all the rain around us. That’s no fun either.
There was a summer a few years back, like maybe 2002, where Woodford County and Fayette County were dry as a bone but we had severe storms almost every afternoon in Bourbon County. The “Ring of Fire” was in place but we were just on the very outside of it. That was a wild summer of very bad storms here and no rain at all 20 miles away.
very interesting facts…
especially greatest one day snowfalls
occured March 1993 with over 19 inches during the blizzard and then in April of 1987 over 8 inches fell then…I remember both events quit well…
hey even 1″ of snow fell on May 7th 1989…LETS HOPE THATS NOT A REPEAT…LOL…
I remember those both..the Superstorm of 93 pounded southeastern Ky..and the great April Snowstorm of 87…some of the biggest snowflakes I’ve ever seen…both storms produced 20 plus inch totals here in Leslie Co!
I too am ready for spring!, the last two or three storms have been a bust here in Floyd co.If all we can get around here is a dusting that melts as fast as it lays, then I say bring on the warm weather! The only thing that I dread about spring is the severe weather and flooding, which this being an El-Nino winter I say we will have plenty of both. Take care everyone have a good evening, and GO WILDCATS!!! BEAT THOSE DOGS TONITE.
typically when we have a el nino winter, we have below average severe weather. But with that said, when the storms do come, they come with force. Also what you said about rain, I dont expect this to be a dry year, average rainfall probably. But, if it ever does stop raining for a prolonged period (2 or more weeks) then the temps will soar.
Yippppeeeee!
🙂 🙂 🙂
Congrats to the CATS!!!
Thanks for all the updates Chris…
Now if Laurel County can get a couple more good snowfalls before Spring sets in I’d be Happy until the comin’ Winter. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Thanks! Each day millions of people search for movies or songs for download on the Internet. For this target I recommend – Rapidshare Search Engine ( http://rapidqueen.com ).
