Good afternoon, folks. We’re in the middle of another much colder than normal day here in the bluegrass state with upper 20s and low 30s for many (I think most of us forget the normal high is now around 50 degrees). With the cold comes another shot of light snow across the south and east.
I don’t have any changes to the overall setup and placement of where most of the light snow falls. Here’s a look…
A Winter Weather Advisory is now out for parts of this area…
That system zips through quickly overnight and is replaced by snow showers and flurries for all on Thursday. That’s as another shot of arctic air moves in for Friday and Saturday.
The pattern after this looks super active and is trending colder from Sunday through next week. Beware anyone talking about anything resembling “spring” during this time. Forecast the actual weather and the pattern instead of regurgitating what the computer models say. Isn’t that how it should be done? π
Watch for more of a winter look to show up on the models in the coming days. Everything from snow and a wintry mix to heavy rain and thunder will all be possible.
Let’s get back to track-a-lacking what we have out there this afternoon…
Another update comes your way this evening. Take care.
Thanks for keeping us so informed, Chris.
Looking at the radar returns on a national map it appears central KY will slip between the northern and southern systems – darn! Seriously, I would like another good snow here in Lex before the spring thaw begins.
They literally look like they almost meet except for that swath through CKY. Bummer!
Local mets say we are near 60 this weekend here in BG!! Soooooo….that’s not true?? π
Looks like the totals are upped slightly a little more north too…..
Thanks Chris. Just going to take each day as it comes but when it comes to the weather, and temps, Kentucky Weather is the only place to be! Have a great ‘hump’ day everyone! Stay warm.
I’m sticking to 4-6″ in Middlesboro. These past few systems have produced more than forecasted with a last second NW shift.
The way the past week or so has gone I’d say that’s a good bet.
Middlesboro has been the biggest loser this winter for snow..haha and I dont see 6 inches in Middlesboro. But I’m ready for spring.
I wouldn’t say snow loser at all. Sure, central and northern KY always gets more annual snowfall, but 15-17″ (depending on the area of the city) in the last 2 winter storms does not signify “snow loser”. lol
Thanks Chris.I miss Rollo song of the day.Tim I am so glad you are getting your snow.
I think that temp map is off, it’s not 32 here, it’s 24, and I doubt we touch 41 today
If previous storms shifted from model indications less than 12 hours out, any chance of a track change in this one?
I think the amounts of south central KY may be overdone slightly…but generally, I agree with the call map. It would be nice to get pure snow down in Nashville after last week’s ice storm.
Well it looks like my northern shuffle didn’t work.
This time.
Hoping the next system brings us one more really good snowfall. I am in the mood for more snow, you can call me crazy, but I am a fan.
I’ll be good and ready for spring if we can make that happen Mr. Bailey!
WLKY32 says nothing to see here for the weekend and early next week.
Rain and more rain….highs in the mid 40’s to low 50’s.
This would wash away all the dirty mucky snow out there.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see those numbers change (just as Chris said) once we get closer to Sunday.
“Beware anyone talking about anything resembling βspringβ during this time. Forecast the actual weather and the pattern instead of regurgitating what the computer models say. Isnβt that how it should be done? ;)”
Uh, any clue as to which direction this was aimed? I honestly don’t follow any other channel’s weather, so I usually never know when one of them ‘dun gone end messd up’.
Bubba or someone else, refresh my memory of how much of the WKYT 7-Day Outlook is forecast and how much is straight computer model copy. I want to say it’s human forecast for 4 days out from the given day but that may not be correct.
I second your question!
Also, about the sunday into next week system. “Its trending colder….not spring like, etc”.. but this easily could be 35-40 cold rain! Correct?
Also From WKYT site right now from MH….”Another storm system develops and works our way from late Sunday into early next week. That will really pump in some milder air for us to start off the first full week of March” Chris is he wrong or right? Heavy rain and thunder sounds like spring weather to me.
Weatherman fight…!
big flood coming mark it down
Don’t say that Rollo you will have to come help me move. I can look out and see the Big Sandy. Still in its banks for now I hope it stays that way.
I agree with you Rolo.
It looks like that may be the case. Unless it is cold enough to keep this stuff frozen and snows instead. Really need some warm enough dry days for a slow melt. But if it rains like I have seen mentioned in other forecasts flooding will be a given and it will be major here. Hope it does not come to that and everyone stays safe.
Well it’s hit 40 in knott co yesterday and today so It liable to hit 60 next week
im really worried u guys, we get u to higher ground if need be.
CBs arch nemesis is saying the opposite for next week and the cold is basically over. CB has been correct about the cold for the most part, but the other person not so much.
If other mets would stop worrying about trying to play a game of “gotcha” with me… there forecasts would improve dramatically. π
*LIKE* (we really need a like button on here)
Like Like Like
π I agree, Chris!
Agreed. *Their
I tried to hit “like” 5 times until my blonde head finally realized I was on the wrong site. I’m hearing lots of spring talk in my neck of the woods. Ohhh what I’d give to have CB back in the tri state area.
Did Chris just make a ‘boo-boo’ in how he explained the ‘coming wx’?? First he says not to pay attention to other mets, models, etc, saying that “Spring has sprung” because more winter is in store for us next week, but then, turns around and says we have a chance of rain & thunder, which is what most met’s have been saying for around the first part of next week….hmmmm…still love ya anyhow, CB! π
Rain and thunder come at all times of the year. The spring folks are selling you a false bill of goods by advertising it as “spring”. It’s not and spring is a long ways off, still.
The only two people I trust are CB and Rolo.
I only trust his billy goat.
I trust you, Chris, lol. Not rolo.
Well technically it will be met. spring on Sunday.
Show Rolo some love. His last call is mostly right..
His last call is usually now casting as it’s happening outside his window. π
Is it just my wishful thinking or is this storm shifting northward?
I hope it is !
I was thinking the same thing!! But no one is saying anything… So I guess we are wishful thinking! Lol
Radar is filling in pretty good just south of Middlesboro. Looking good.
Chris – any chance this could be an over achiever for McCreary County ?
looking stronger to me, once virga gets over, sooner the better
How much Knox getting tonight Rolo?
Todd Howell with WBIR predicting 2-4 inches of snow for Knoxville. I still have at least 1 inch of snow in my backyard in West Knoxville. Next Tuesday highs predicted close to 60 with thunderstorms. What next?? Do I dare ask??
Thanks Chris, your the best!
From the radar KY looks like “no man’s land” or no snow land. How about we just sing a chorus of The Beatles’ “Stuck in the Middle With You”? How funny it looks to see two systems, one north, the other south, and us in the center with nothing. Maybe we will get a dusting here in NEKY.
Steeler Wheels
Steelers Wheel, Sang “Stuck in the middle with you” Gerry Rafferty was there lead singer…….I get your point though
My family lives in North Georgia, Calhoun. Dad says they have about 3+ inches on the ground right now. So glad my nieces and nephews are getting some snow!
