Good Friday to one and all. We have a cold front sweeping eastward across the commonwealth today. This front is bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to much of the region and will be followed by a chilly blast of air to start the coming weekend.
Here’s a breakdown of what to expect:
– Scattered showers and rumbles of thunder develop and roll across the state today. The best chance of rain is across central and eastern Kentucky. It is not going to rain all day or evening and some areas won’t pick up very much at all.
– Rains will quickly taper from northwest to southeast this evening as cooler and drier winds blow. Temps will drop into the upper 50s for the second half of high school football action.
– Saturday may start with a shower in the southeast, but it looks like a gorgeous day. Upper 40s will start things out with low and middle 60s to end it. Winds will be a little gusty, but nothing we can’t handle.
– Temps by Sunday morning will drop to around 40 in some areas. A few upper 30s will be possible in the colder valleys…
– Sunday is another awesome day with low 70-75 west and upper 60s to near 70 east.
– Another cold front moves in late Monday into Monday night with a band of showers…
– Temps take another dive behind this front…
Another shot of chill comes late next week and we will focus more on that over the coming weekend. Until then, let’s track some showers…
Make it a great day and take care.
A very early start to the day with a small, heavy pocket of rain hitting the Bell/Harlan area already…going to be an active Friday.
Just saw a report about the el nino and that it might last for a while. Was predicting drier than normal for the winter around here. I had seen a similar el nino report from another weather place that had Kentucky in the normal but near the areas they had listed as drier than normal. I have been a little behind on following this and wonder if that is the general type of consensus so far.
Sounds like a real nice weekend to get out and do some stuff. Hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy it.
It’s BS. These alleged forecasters say that for every single el nino and it rarely works out.
I am glad you responded CB! I am in my early 30s and have not yet witnessed a dry winter with El Nino, at least in SE KY. I cannot for the life of me conclude what data is being used as I have seen this type of forecasts for years, including the infamous 97-98 El Nino…it was not dry at all during that winter or following spring!
We’re running the Bourbon Chase on Oct 15th and 16th. Any thoughts on what kind of temps and conditions we might be looking at then? Thanks!
Chance for some showers on the 16th as a cold front works in. The 15th looks ok right now with breezy weather and highs in the 60s.
