Good Friday to one and all. A huge storm system rolls in late this weekend into Monday and is going to bring all kinds of wild weather our way. Record high temps will give way to high winds that can cause some issues before all is said and done. As all this is going on, signs of winter are trying to show up later next week.

Highs today will reach the 60 to 65 degree mark in much of the state. We will have a fair amount of clouds out there and anyone is fair game to see a shower or two…

This brings us into Saturday and Sunday and the potential for record highs to fall. High temps should generally run in the upper 60s to low 70s into most of Kentucky. Some sunshine could boost local thermometers a few degrees above that.

Our storm system then begins to impact our region from late Sunday into Monday. Showers and a few thunderstorms roll through…

GFSThis thing is going to be a massive wind produce from the deep south all the way into southern Canada. This is one big wind machine…

GFS 2Wind gusts of 40mph to 50mph will be likely across Kentucky late Sunday into Monday. I would not be surprised to see some 50mph+ gusts show up with this system. Wow!

What about the possibility of some winter weather? The pattern continues to look more and more like something we should be seeing this time of year. A wintertime cold front arrives Wednesday. This front slows down just to our east as cold air arrives from the northwest. An area of low pressure is going to try to develop somewhere along this boundary.

Check out the look from the European Model for next Thursday…

That’s a nice shot of cold air invading the country with a storm developing in the northern Gulf. That same model run then takes that low just to our east…

That’s something to keep a close eye on in the coming days. It’s funny to be talking about temps hitting record highs this weekend and then less than a week later seeing the models showing temps much colder than normal…

I will update this active setup later today. Make it a great Friday and take care.
