Good Friday to one and all. A huge storm system rolls in late this weekend into Monday and is going to bring all kinds of wild weather our way. Record high temps will give way to high winds that can cause some issues before all is said and done. As all this is going on, signs of winter are trying to show up later next week.
Highs today will reach the 60 to 65 degree mark in much of the state. We will have a fair amount of clouds out there and anyone is fair game to see a shower or two…
This brings us into Saturday and Sunday and the potential for record highs to fall. High temps should generally run in the upper 60s to low 70s into most of Kentucky. Some sunshine could boost local thermometers a few degrees above that.
Our storm system then begins to impact our region from late Sunday into Monday. Showers and a few thunderstorms roll through…
This thing is going to be a massive wind produce from the deep south all the way into southern Canada. This is one big wind machine…
Wind gusts of 40mph to 50mph will be likely across Kentucky late Sunday into Monday. I would not be surprised to see some 50mph+ gusts show up with this system. Wow!
What about the possibility of some winter weather? The pattern continues to look more and more like something we should be seeing this time of year. A wintertime cold front arrives Wednesday. This front slows down just to our east as cold air arrives from the northwest. An area of low pressure is going to try to develop somewhere along this boundary.
Check out the look from the European Model for next Thursday…
That’s a nice shot of cold air invading the country with a storm developing in the northern Gulf. That same model run then takes that low just to our east…
That’s something to keep a close eye on in the coming days. It’s funny to be talking about temps hitting record highs this weekend and then less than a week later seeing the models showing temps much colder than normal…
I will update this active setup later today. Make it a great Friday and take care.
Thanks Chris. Wow! Guess the old adage about Ky’s changing weather will be proven out in the next week for sure! Thank you for the heads up about the wind. As for the cold, it’s about time for that. Have a great Friday everyone!
Already 62 degrees where I’m at woke up this morning temp was sitting at 57 and it’s December 11th. I hate saying this word in the winter but the next 36 hrs will be BLOWTORCH weather at its finest.
Will be interesting to see if the good ole’ westward correction occurs with that system late next week!
This guy knows what’s up.

Actually I am ready for some snow……It doesn’t feel like Christmas with the warm weather. May regret saying this a little later.
Well the online sites have 60’s and 70’s thru next Wednesday. They also keep the blow torch turned on high into the new year. On side note. Been seeing dandelions appear the last few days, even seen bee’s on them today. Wow climate change at its finest. I do hope Chris is seeing something all the others are missing.
What a change from last year, I love snow, but this weather is easy on the cash flow!
I love snow and cold, but this weather is pretty hard to beat! 🙂 Though I do want it to get MUCH colder before Christmas!
When I make a comment, Chris will make a new post. Anyway, A lot of bad winters here have been blowtorch into all the way into January….I think someone said Dec ’76 was very warm even New Years Eve, maybe even in the 70s. And one winter Dec was bitterly cold the entire month, then Jan/feb ended up warming up with nothing…I’m sure folks going through that bitter Dec figured the rest of the winter would be horrible, and it wasn’t. It will be fun to see what will happen….
