Good Sunday morning everyone. Now that I have thawed out from the cold at Commonwealth… I wanted to drop by for a very quick update.
Rain showers started mixing with snowflakes Saturday evening across much of the area. We will continue to see some snow showers and flurries across the region through the first part of this Sunday. The potential is there for the first coating of snow on some roof tops and such… especially in the east. The highest mountains could pick up an inch or so. Here are a few cams for you to check out…
Middlesboro
Harlan
Pikeville
Highs Today will stay in the 30s for most areas. Another system will dive in for Monday and Tuesday with an increase in rain and snow showers that change to snow showers. Yet another system rolls in by later in the week with more of the same.
I will update things later today! Until then… take care.

I read the NWS forecast discussion and it said to expect a cool/dry work week, including saturday.
Thanks Chris…a dusting of snow here in Isom (NW part of Letcher County) mainly on rooftops.
We have a dusting in LEX!
I had to do a double take this morning when I saw the white stuff! WOW! Way to go, Chris!
Stay warm today, everyone!
I guess I need to be more specific when I say “dusting” – there is snow on our fence, rooftop, kids slide, etc. There isn’t any on the ground. Sorry if I got too excited and wasn’t very exact! 🙂
Nice dusting here in the Jeffersonville area. Some on the ground in shelterd spots, and nice coating on rooftops. And even some snow showers in the air:)
You got it right again Chris!
Our roof tops and decks are covered here in Versailles as well. I thought there wasn’t going to be enough moisture left to support any snow as the front went by according to the NWS discussion at six last evening! I was pleasantly surprised to see it!
Just before 9 o’clock it’s sleeting/snowing here in Ravenna. It sounds more like sleet by the way it’s hitting on the leaves. Chris, you hit the forecast exactly. Hope that you have thawed out from yesterday! Bring on the winter!
William, do you remember the Cow Shed at Isom? My great uncle owned it.
Light snow in Winchester with brief periods of heavy sleet. Dusting on roof tops, but melting on the ground.
We had a light, very light dusting so far here in Eubank.
just some very light flurries with a decent breeze in Knox county
I just wonder if the NWS will even acknowledge that we had snow today?
NWS has listed light snow on several of he weather reports for LEX this morning.
Good Morning Chris & Blogger’s,
It is 33* and snow showers down here on the state line.Nothing on the ground, but a dusting on the car every once in a while 🙂
Have a good day & stay warm !
Unbelievable that the NWS Louisville STILL does NOT have any flakes in the forecast for Today. I can find no trace of them even acknowleging that is snowed this morning in central Kentucky and that a few more snow showers are on the way. Their weekend effort has been BAD!
Not surprising really
Chris, they’ve clearly showed the snow for several periods this morning, I don’t know what you are looking at.
Well Chris, that may be your opinion, but your statement above is simply not true. I can not believe that you still sit here and type out BS without looking through the data. If one would simply go out and look (its on the web), you would have found the following:
844 AM: Nowcast issued stating scattered flurries and snow showers to affect the area (much of north central and east central KY).
944 AM: Supplemental observation reports from around the area show several Traces of snow from area observers.
427 PM: Climate report for Lexington shows 0.02 inches of precipitation and a trace of snow.
TO MJ and Michael T
“I can find no trace of them even acknowleging that is snowed this morning in central Kentucky and that a few more snow showers are on the way.”
I think you misunderstood. I think Chris meant that it was bad on the NWS not to have found a trace of snow for central KY. I also think he meant that there would be more snow showers on the way but the NWS LOuisville isn’t realizing that. That’s why “their (NWS) weekend effort has been bad!”
Just got a chance to see this. You are correct on one point and that is the one Nowcast that was issued this morning. I overlooked this. Other than that your folks there took the snow out of the forecast for late Sat night and Sunday morning. You know good and good and well they missed it and still would NOT add it to the forecast… even when it was happening.
So… please don’t come to my blog and lecture me with things like “BS” and such. You left them with a good forecast and they blew it off.
Feel free to print this off and take it to JG so he can keep in his file. My blog keeps track of “ptinted” posts and it would seem the only ones ever printed are the ones in which the NWS is mentioned. 😉
Outside of all this… I hope things are going well with you.
