Good Thursday and Merry Christmas Eve. Severe weather and flooding rains lashed much of the bluegrass state on Wednesday. Unfortunately, this type of pattern isn’t quite done with us. Even heavier amounts of rain are on the way this weekend into early next week. The flood threat will be on the increase.
We will catch a bit of a break out there today, but more rain moves back in for Christmas. This becomes heavy at times with thunder and lightning Friday night into early Saturday…
High water issues may develop during this time.
The corridor of heaviest rain will try to work north of the Ohio River later Saturday. I’m not fully sold on the idea that this happens for any lengthy period of time. We had better hope that happens or we will be in an even worse situation.
Torrential rains return Sunday into Monday as our storm system works toward the region…
Rainfall totals from the GFS through Monday continue to be alarming…
The Canadian Model is echoing a similar sentiment…
As I said several days ago, this is the setup that can bring about a flood event for the Ohio and Tennessee River Valleys. The above maps certainly look the part.
The pattern flips to winter once the rains end by the middle of the week. It’s almost as if mother nature is literally flipping a switch. We will focus more on that after we get through the nasty stuff of the next several days.
I leave you with your Christmas Eve Trackers…
Merry Christmas and take care.
Five words: My lord, what a mess.
That’s what this looks like.
Flood watches will be hoisted by Christmas Day for some parts of the state and in and around the Ohio Valley, you can count on that!
Merry Christmas, Chris. Looking forward to the flip to winter.
Wow. I hope we can get this kind of moisture when the flip happens. That could mean lots and lots of snow.
Merry Xmas to all.
Rodger interested in the flip!!
This is ridiculous. I guess we were due for it after the beautiful dry fall we had.
On a different note, they’re bracing for a raging blizzard across cactus country..? West TX all the way down into Mexico? lol
Merry Christmas Eve Bedford Falls!
I’m ready for WINTER! But, if you remember Chris’ forecast earlier in the fall, it said that our “True” winter wouldn’t come until January and February. I absolutely hate spring and summer, I’m ready for SNOW!
P.S. Merry CHRISTmas !!! Be safe and enjoy a safe and memorable holiday!
CB, too bad this ridiculous weather for X-mas wasn’t your Winter Prediction this year. Australian Christmas, much like the Spanish Inquisition, is never expected around here.
Everyone remember to switch out the milk and cookies for Gatorade and bowls of water so Santa and the reindeer so can avoid heat exhaustion.
This will certainly add to our top ten ranking for wettest years on record in Louisville. But, Louisville will also be making an appearance in the top ten warmest Decembers on record. And something I haven’t heard or read anywhere yet, Louisville should record somewhere in the middle of the top ten list for warmest years on record despite only 38 days >=90 degrees and 0 days >=100 degrees.
It appears we will have a tremendous amount of rain in the next 4 or 5 days. If only part of the precipitation was snow!! Hopefully we will have a big snow soon. Merry Christmas to everyone.
The birds were chirping, the honey bees buzzing, the ac was on. 75 and sunshine with the yard looking in need of mowing… was it july, june, no it was flipping Christmas eve day! Please old man winter, please come home. We need you. Oh and could you bring a little snow? Merry Christmas Chris! From balmy southeast ky.
Dont know what u guys are tore up about….I love this balmy weather LOL….so a couple inches of rain? I can deal.
