Good Wednesday, everyone. Our current temperature pattern across the region is straight out of the first week of May. Our Kentucky Derby week of temps will soon be joined by rounds of showers and thunderstorms that can put down some very heavy rains over the next several days.
Today will feature mid and upper 70s for much of the state. 80 degrees may show up for the first time this year across the eastern half of the state. Can we get to record highs? There’s a chance.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be noted across western Kentucky through the evening. Much of the state has to wait until late Thursday into Thursday night to get in on the showers and thunderstorms. The models continue to indicate some hefty rain totals through Friday morning…
After a break in the action Friday into Friday night, additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms develop over the weekend. That will up the rain totals through Monday…
I leave you with your daily dose of weather tracking toys…
I will have another update late today. Make it a good one and take care.
Not much rain forecasted for SE KY at all! Well, my allergies are already getting severe, and with the look of the forecast over the next 2 to 3 weeks, we are in for an explosive pollen season early this year.
I saw your last post and was already thinking the same concern for the possibility of a tragic end to an early growing season. Thankfully, we don’t have historic freezes like we did in 1987 and 2007 very often, but when we do, they can create havoc on the produce and the cost of food. Also, I think 1987 was the last we had a big April snow in KY. I was too young to remember this one, but my parents and many other residents said that we received over 30 inches in Harlan, but the whole event was melted in less than 3 days!!!!
Even if we were to get a snow like the GFS is showing 3 + weeks from now, it would be a waste of time as the ground will be really warm by then. But, I wouldn’t put a dime on the GFS as of late other than showing a possible pattern change back to cold in April.
Some 80s starting to pop up in the Tennessee Valley between Knoxville and Chattanooga! 😛
Much of Kentucky and the rest of Tennessee are easily in the 70s except for those areas getting rain; frequent lightning strikes now in far western parts of KY and TN.
“Only” upper 60’s here in far northern Kentucky. And it looks like rain is about to move in and that wasn’t really predicted to happen until tonight.
Yup rain band went further east then expected. The river counties are not really having the best of days rainy and gloomy.
Looks like rain is coming today – not tomorrow!
I know Louisville was forecast to make a run possibly for a record high thanks to the unexpected rain that’s not remotely going to happen.
I still don’t like the looks of March 22nd. I hope and pray that it stays all rain and no snow
