Good Monday, folks. Many of us had a decent drink of water over the weekend as a cold front moved through. That bad boy put down some 3″ rain totals in the east. It also managed to user in some better air for today, but there is more sizzle to come this week. After that, much colder air tries to sweep in.
Temps today will range from the upper 70s and low 80s east, to the middle 80s in the west. Most of the area will be dry, but I’ve seen a similar atmosphere spit out a surprise shower.
There may be a healthy west to east temp gradient setting up over the next few days. Julia continues to spin just off the Carolinas and may come far enough west to throw some clouds and showers into the eastern part of Kentucky. Watch this simulated radar from the NAM…
As that moves away for the second half of the week, temps can take off across the entire region. Upper 80s to near 90 degree highs will be possible into the coming weekend.
The models continue to advertise a healthy cold front arriving late this weekend into Monday…
That model run actually shows a secondary cold front unleashing some real deal chill not too far from us by Tuesday and Wednesday of next week…
The GFS Ensembles look very similar with a deep trough digging in here…
I know I said I would talk about fall and winter this past weekend, but I ended up lying to you guys. Yea.. Like that’s a first! 🙂 I will get around to it this week. I promise… No, really… You can trust me. 😉
Have a great day and take care.
If that cool down occurs on Monday with the front it looks to be very brief in nature a quick shot of upper 70’s for a day and then right back up into the 80’s.
That pattern shift type cool down which has been ‘on the way’ has become a version of the ‘week out’ snow event that haunts us so often here during the winter. It’s been ‘on the way’ week after week after week now.
My rain gauge here in SE Menifee County read 5 3/4 inches yesterday.
Thanks Chris. If it’s going to cool off here, just let us keep it up this way. Heading for the sunshine state at the end of next week. Hoping for nice weather. We got a healthy dose of rain yesterday morning and Saturday night but not nearly what others recorded. We had about an inch and a half. Needed, for sure, if one can believe that after the wet summer we’ve had! Have a great Monday everyone, if you can say that about Monday.
I recorded 1.01 at house close to Harlan, KY yesterday. The rainfall wasn’t extreme, but definently substantial and much needed.
If September ended today, this would be the 2nd warmest September on record. I say we make a run at #1 given the forecast for the next week.
