Good Tuesday, folks. The overall weather pattern across the region is about to get much more active in the coming days. Given how calm it’s been of late, that wouldn’t be saying too much. 🙂 Still, the pattern appears to be revving up as we head deeper into October and the change of seasons gets going.
We have the first of several cold fronts arriving in here Wednesday night and early Thursday. This will likely spawn a gusty band of showers and isolated thunderstorms…
Temps will mainly be in the 60s on Thursday, and could stay there on Friday as clouds increase ahead of the next system. This should be a shower maker from late Friday into Saturday…
Neither of these systems look to offer up much rain.
Another cold front quickly zips in here from the northwest on Sunday with an increase in, at least, scattered showers and thunderstorms. That carries us into early Monday…
The cold fronts don’t end there, the models indicate another one moving in late Tuesday…
And a few days later, we find another font with much colder air showing up behind it…
We are getting into the second severe weather season, and several of my analog years got a little frisky this time of year. Guess we shall see if we can get anything cranking in the coming weeks.
Have a great Tuesday and take care.
The cold fronts coming through the Commonwealth are in the Clipper mode very little moisture.
Hopefully we can squeeze some moisture out of these little systems.. Seems this time of year though they offer nothing more than an increase in winds, particularly here in southeast Ky. I was looking over some numbers over on mesonet, The Breathitt co site is closest to me and its recorded barely an inch of rain since Sept 1. It’s getting very dry here, streams/branches that normally don’t go dry are starting to.
We are having minor issues here in SE KY but people south of us in TN and North AL/GA are really in a serious drought. I recently read an article online that mentions how bad Chattanooga was comparing this year to 2007, if you can imagine that. I am glad we had all of the spring and early summer rain myself. I am not a fan of droughts and the boring weather patterns that lead to them.
My parents live in the Chattanooga/Cleveland TN area. While I recall the 2007 drought was more widespread, this year Chattanooga is unfortunate to be virtually dead center for the most parched conditions. My folks said there was a large g-r-a-s-s fire only a week ago about two miles from the house.
Yet go the relatively short distance to Land Between the Lakes and things are relatively lush……although it’s still been very dry as of late.
Correction, it’s recorded barely an inch of rain since Aug 22.
I have recorded less than 2 inches here in Harlan Co, KY at my house since the last rain in late August! Without the excessive rains from May through July, we would be up the dry creek without a paddle…figuratively speaking!
