Good Saturday, folks. We’ve made it to the weekend and the weather looks pretty darn nice. Given the ugly stuff we had in the past week, I think we have earned a nice weekend. Unfortunately there is more ugly showing up for next week with some of the models going hog wild on some winter crazy.
Today starts cold with readings in the 20s. As milder air moves in, it can produce some light snow in the north and northeast early on…
By the afternoon, temps are taking off with low 60s in the west to near 50 in the east.
Sunday looks gooooooooooood with highs in the 60s under partly sunny skies.
The threat for a shower or thunderstorm will be with us on Monday as southwesterly winds continue to crank. The increase in moisture is ahead of a strong cold front plowing in here on Tuesday. That should have a band of showers and thunderstorms ahead of it…
We will need to be on guard for some strong storms with that, but the setup is much more tame than what we had a few days ago.
Seasonally chilly air comes in behind that for the middle of the week with a battle brewing late in the week into next weekend. The models continue to struggle with winter verses spring in this time frame.
The European Model has slightly different timing than earlier, but keeps showing an Ohio Valley to east coast winter storm…
Winter lovers want to lock that run in and roll with it. Taken verbatim, it shows a smackdown. That shows up well with the crazy cold temps it has to follow…
The Canadian joined the winter look by the weekend…
The GFS is MUCH warmer…
The GFS Ensembles are riding with a warm look…
I’m all aboard the GFS train, but it even shows a much colder pattern developing next week. Sigh… March is such a fickle month.
Have a great Saturday and take care.
That last statement: March is suck a fickle month.
LOL – I remember March is your least favorite weather month.
True – But you never know what will happen with the weather during March. August is the worst weather month. Sure you can get the occasional bad storm, but overall it’s a horribly boring weather month.
I agree about March–it is definitely not a boring weather month from a meteorological standpoint!
I have to admit that I am getting bored with the March weather this year as we are basically in the 4TH MONTH OF MARCH to end out winter this year!
This season (can’t really call it winter by the results) has been fickle.
Almost an inch of snow in Covington, KY, and it’s still coming down, haha.
Too early to tell but could be a major snowstorm for some late next week. Would not surprise me any. Right now we need to watch for the potential strong thunder storms on Tuesday. Have a great Saturday.
The question is which model has had better consistency this winter my guess is the gfs since it has the warmer look. I can’t see the pattern really breaking this late in the game
I think the GFS will be right. It seems Spring has already arrived.
agree!
As 2007 proved, we were fooled once.
NWS Paducah has upgraded the Perryville MO tornado to EF4. A rare EF4 for February for our general area of the country. NWS Paducah also measured the Harrisburg Illinois tornado of Feb 29 2012 as an EF4.

Though it seems the GFS is WRONG 90% of the time, I’ll agree that this time will be in the 10% correct category.
As far as the potential storm and considering warm air has won out every time this winter, I’m placing bets on the GFS and other warm favoring models. The models showing warm air winning have an all winter streak going.
And there she goes, pffft on the 12z run of the a Euro. Good. I’m with Chris, I’d rather be out in the garden.
Oh come on!!! That’s just a bad run of the Euro. lol
