Good Monday evening to one and all. We’re putting the wraps on a fantastic day across the bluegrass state. Temps hit the 40s for many areas and we are seeing a lot of ugly snowmen showing up across the south and southeast.
We have a couple of systems to contend with over the next several days. The first brings some showers into town as we head into Tuesday. Winds will pick up as temps warm into the 50s. Those 50s hang tough into Wednesday and we may tickle 60. Thursday looks to be a windy and fairly warm day with highs in the 60s ahead of an approaching storm.
This system looks pretty dynamic for Thursday night into the start of the weekend. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible into Friday morning. A drastic drop in temps will then take place and we may see some snow flying by Friday afternoon and evening.
The new run of the European Model is showing a heck of a low on top of the Ohio Valley that blows up as it heads into the northeast…
That’s a strong system with a lot of wind potential and the chance for some decent wraparound snows. We will keep an eye on it.
Have a great evening and take care.
It was beautiful while it lasted. Now all we have is ugly patches.
Looking forward to thunderstorms! Thanks Chris, your the best.
When strong winds are in the long range forecast, it is always accurate. 🙁
Final measurement this morning, with a yardstick, 10 inches of snow on a ridgetop here in Leslie County, elevation 1,400 feet. Now, the rest of the state can have all the snow they want from here on out, still over 50% of our county has now power. So, hopefully, this weekend, all of Kentucky can get a good snowfall, just leave us out of it LOL!
I love my snow but I have to say I’m tired of the disappointment and just want to move on. I haven’t felt so betrayed since I got a ” dee-vorce”!
My hope is that the models hold to that trend over the next few days, and that Lexington doesn’t get robbed of snow this time. I really commend the Meteorologists for doing they’re very best to forecast this past weekends storm. Unfortunately they can’t get every call perfect.
It looks like the GFS & Euro have the same idea about the wrap around moisture. Lets see what happens Fri Evening & nite.
Forecast STP (Significant Tornado Parameter) index for Thursday evening at 6:00 pm CST notice that central, west kentucky and central west tenn northern miss and northwest alabama could get some tornadoes.

Thank you for that post. NWS Paducah Hazardous Weather Outlook said that spotter activation may be coming on Thursday. I wondered what was up.
yeah this is from the NAM model. Do you also monitor skywarn in your area ?
Sorry to say that I’m not familiar with that. I’m a weather novice really. I read CB’s blog, of course, and NWS discussions. That’s the extent of my resource knowledge, lol.
its fine. do you have a police scanner and if you do what county are you located in ?
I do not have one. I’m in Daviees county
If you get one you can plug in Owensboro

Thanks!! I’m making note of that right now 🙂
Given how great the models are doing, it will probably be sunny and 80 on Friday.
Haha! This made me laugh. 🙂
9 comments….Lucy has had the last laugh again, CB.
I think Lucy makes the models.
I think Lucy forgot to let go of the ball and Charlie Brown actually kicked it this time (Laurel County 6 1/2″).
Don’t care about winter 2012. Yesterday I changed the screensavers and themes on all the computers and today I did it in the office-all to spring stuff and for good measure I bought 2 pairs of white linen pants! Done, I say.
still one more decent snow before were done in ole KY.
tx CB!!! Isay 1st week march thru mid march we could see a snowstorm.
Rolo bud, just the other day you were saying we were done 😉
Ironically, your inconsistency is very consistent 🙂
rolo…I think there might be a at least 2 more chances we get wet snowfall here in the se part of the state!..before the blowtorch kicks in mid march!
Please, not another week of wait until Friday!!
Thank you! Can’t take it. Especially *if* there is snow, it will be warm the next few days after so it wouldn’t be worth it anyway. Just like this last one that southeast KY got. If we are facing a decent snow, it would be great for cold to follow for a week or so, otherwise it doesn’t feel true to me.

thanks
Thanks CB! Looking forward to more snow chances, and really looking forward to my tomatoes being planted, LOL. This snow-gal loves gardening just as much 😀
my tomato seeds are up about 1/2″.!!!..im ready as well…but they can stay in the pots, as long as the snow is flying…lol…
LOL TIM. I hear ya that. Even tho flowers are blooming in my yard, they can stay buried under snow for a while too. LOL Loved today looking at the beauty of the snowfall, but there is a lot of bareness showing up already. I knew it was going to happen but 1 day of beauty, after this snow deprived winter, is better than 0 days of beauty. Agree?
I have lost all confidence in winter forecasts, southern storms sucking in the moisture, no weather balloons in Mexico, a lot of virga, no phasing, too much phasing… I know the mets work hard but it just doesn’t seem to get any better. I love cold and snow in the winter, hot and dry in the summer and everything in between. I just relish real seasons. Hopefully we still have some winter left. We’ll see.
I heard it might snow this weekend…
how about 70’s by march 7th or 8th…!!…lol..
We’ll see…
Freakishly abnormal. Just wrong in February….just wrong. 🙁
….and March even, lol
I think the word snow should be forboden around these parts from now on. I’m still bitter about the last bust :/ and after that one, I’m done. Done, done, done. Ready for spring!
Any snow from here on out will be very short lived just like this weekends snow. Most of it is more than likey melted or a muddy mess. Getting six inches in Dec/Jan is nice because it is colder and can sometimes hang around for another storm to hit. Haven’t had a winter like that since 1977 or 1978.
I do see a few chances before it get warm mid-March. I guess I would take snow over rain.
Thinking Summer and 90’s….
Rain rain rain rain rain…. all week long.
Oh yeah, this is better than snow.
Not.
I am betting when my plants need it most this spring, there will be short supply. About how it goes lately, LOL.
Ahhhhhhh….gotta love KY. 😉
