Good evening, gang. Our weekend continues to wrap up with milder air firmly entrenched across the bluegrass state. This is ahead of the first of two cold fronts moving in here over the next week, with the first arriving on Monday.
That front is likely to spawn scattered showers and even a thunderstorm. Gusty winds are also going to be a player, with gusts of 40-45mph a good bet. A few gusts in the west may approach 50mph…
Colder winds then blow behind the front, with the potential for some snow and rain showers to filter in on Tuesday…
A seasonal chill then hangs around into Wednesday, before milder air surges back in here for the end of the week. This is ahead of a deepening trough working across the Mississippi Valley and into our region. The European Model continues to go toward a much colder solution, with low pressure riding northward up the Appalachian Mountains…
That could be a rain to snow scenario across our part of the world, with that trough digging in for a few days…
That’s a pretty cold look on the European…
Given the mild overall setup across the country, that’s a pretty amazing look and is a sign that the winter pattern does not want to go away. If it can fight through the mild signals, imagine what it can do as the cold signals show back up in early February!
Enjoy your evening and take care.
This is an amazing winter pattern this year! I knew it had to be at least more harsh than last year in terms of wintry weather and cold but I had no idea we would be tanking the temps this much. If February can deliver more of the snow goods, then I think we can be talking about a total reversal from last winter in the COLD and SNOW department.
Looking forward to what fun and games February can bring!
I like the Euro, but I am not seeing a consistent signal that tells me we will be looking at anything like we have seen recently, at least until the first part of February at the earliest.
Thanks Chris. I dont mind more snow but my electric bill certainly did not like the cold! We just got tge higgest bill we have ever gotten in almost 42 years of marriage! Gonna have to work overtime to pay this one! ;). Have a good evening all.
I sense we might be seeing “the big one”, coming late in the season, like late February or on into mid-March…remember the March ’93 Blizzard?!!? Beware the Ides of March, especially in a year with weather like this!!!
