Good Friday afternoon. Thunderstorms are really getting going and so is the threat for severe storms. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is out for western Kentucky until 7pm central time. Here’s a look at the watch outline and the latest warnings…
Large hail and damaging winds will be the primary threats from these storms. I can’t rule out an isolated tornado in this type of setup.
Storms will also fire up a little farther to the east and those could go severe as well. Here is the regional radar to track the boomers…
I will have more updates as needed today and will also send out updates via twitter. Have a great Friday and take care.
Is the radar you just posted under your new blog correct? Because according to that, we have tornado warnings out!
tx BAILEY.
odd to see storms moving almost due north. guess that front has really stalled out.
Listening to police scanner…in the area of Smyrna road in Jefferson county…house has been destroyed. Cedar Creek road and Mt Washington road under tornado warning….Funnel has been sited in the area. Damage has occurred.
Tornado Warnings coming out, with no watch box in place. Again. Sigh…
Imagine that! The NWS completely misses one!
Relatively minor, spotty damage in Louisville from aerial views, although one house missing part of roof, another house shifted off foundation. Here’s livestream:

You know, I’m no expert….But do ya think it might be time for the Storm Prediction boys to put out tornado watches? Just perhaps?
NWS saying at least an EF1 at this point, storm survey ongoing. The damage is only a short drive from the NWS Louisville office.

Without having looked at the upper level winds/shear and all, not sure it would have been good for the SPC to issue a tornado watch for some isolated brief weak twisters. Too many watches in such situations could give the public a ‘cry wolf’ syndrome. Not an expert, though.
The SPC has discussion of issuing a possible new severe t-storm watch for central Ky, seems they feel the tornado threat has already peaked:
