Good Sunday to one and all. Three major winter storms in less than 2 weeks… That’s what just happened here in Kentucky. You can look back through time and not find many instances of that ever happening, let alone happening this late in March. We just keep adding to the historic weather occurrences of the past decade.
Where do we go from here and how on earth can we top that? Well, at this point, I’m almost afraid to even challenge Mother Nature to do so. 🙂 But, the pattern continues to look very active, with a big storm potential showing up to start Easter Weekend.
Let’s begin with our Sunday and roll forward. Our day starts with rain and snow winding down, but some slush-covered roads are a good bet for some areas. I can’t rule out a stray shower this afternoon, but most of us stay dry with temps recovering into the 50s west and 40s elsewhere…
The week ahead turns much milder with temps likely heading toward the 60s for a few days. Scattered showers and thunderstorms may fire up from time to time, with the main action coming late this week. That’s when we find another HUGE dip in the jet stream, cranking up another storm system.
That storm heads toward the Ohio Valley by late this week into the start of Easter Weekend, and could bring heavy rain, strong storms and some winter weather. You can see that coming through here after the mid-week rains…
That’s a quick-hitting shot of cold coming in behind it, but temps should rebound in a big way right after that. This will be ahead of ANOTHER big blast of cold in early April…
A front like that can spawn some big time thunderstorms, and also bring some spring flake action close by…
I’ve said this several times in recent weeks, but the pattern going forward is loaded with severe weather potential for the spring. It’s also a pattern that can bring more flooding issues into our region.
I will have another update later today, so check back. Make it a great Sunday and take care.
So Chris are you saying the cold is not completely behind us?
Thanks Chris, for the update. This past Winter I recorded four snow events worth mentioning, which amounted to twenty seven inches total in my backyard in northern Taylor County. I must be living in a micro climate for catching snowstorms. Yesterday, we were in a cold rain train all day and into late evening. Total rainfall was little over three inches. Have a great Palm Sunday everyone. #teamspring
Temps over achieving currently 57
We made above 60 in Harlan this afternoon.
So much for 40s
Thanks Chris. Had homecoming at church today and the sun came out in time for a beautiful Sunday! Glad the rain is over for a day or two anyway! Now if we could get the sun to stay and the tempsvto stay warm…
