Good Tuesday everyone. I hope each of you enjoyed the big holiday weekend we are coming off of. Temps this past weekend were about as hot as you can get for this time of year with 3-4 straight days of temps in the 90s. Thunderstorms are riding into town to rescue us from the recent heat wave. Some of the boomers may be a little strong and the end of the week system is starting to get my attention.
Scattered showers and storms are out there today ahead of a cold front that is working in from the west. Locally heavy downpours will be possible and a few of the storms could be on the strong side. Here’s the radar to track all the action…
The front will check up just to our south and this may carry a shower or storm into Wednesday. We should also see a decent temp gradient setting up from north to south.
Low pressure is going to form across the Mississippi River Valley on Thursday. The latest trend in the models is to take this low just to our west and into the Great Lakes. That scenario would put us into a much more unstable environment into Friday and thus give us a better chance at severe weather. Check out the GFS…
That is a setup that we will need to keep an eye on. Outside of the violent March 2nd outbreak… our severe weather season has been very tame across the state.
Regardless of the severe threat… that system should bring a nice drink of water to our region as MUCH cooler air works in. Highs by Saturday may struggle to get to 70 for some areas.
Have a great Tuesday and take care.
These storms on the radar are lookin bad about right now. I hope things aren’t going to get too bad today I live in a trailer and i’m paralyzed so it will be hard to take shelter if something comes up. Chris your doing a great job keep up the great work on keeping us updated.
ty Bailey…
Thanks for the updates, CB. But…please say no tornadoes.
Additional flooding a possibility into the afternoon…a big blob of rain in western KY moving up this way here in Louisville. Nearly 3″ has fallen so far. Record for this date is 3.54″ set back in 1880.
Frankfort really needs some rain, so far it is not doing much, Louisville area seems to have hit the rain lottery!
we got just less then an inch of rain here in abt 20 or 30 mins!
Not a drop of rain yet in my part of Bourbon County. I am hoping for something because my yard is completely parched. Is there still hope?
Not much more than a drop of rain here in Versailles even though the radar looks as though we’re getting tons of rain!!
It’s hard to believe that radar. It looks like we are getting lots of rain and we have not had anything here near Paris. 🙁
.25in of rain in east Frankfort, we need much more than that, Hopefully the late week rains will spread the love?
Some nasty storms in progress in Central Oklahoma. One supercell headed northeast merged with a cluster of storms heading southeast. Some of you know that is usually not a Good Thing. Telling folks to get their cars into garages if at all possible.
