Good evening, folks. It’s now all eyes fully on the weekend storm system that will bring a lot of different weather our way. Some of the latest trends are bringing the cold air in a little quicker Saturday afternoon and evening. That would lead to an earlier start to the winter weather and flash freeze.
Before that change to cold, a lot of rain is going to fall on Saturday. A general 1″-3″ will be possible, leading to a local high water threat…
Temps crash from northwest to southeast from Saturday afternoon through Sunday. 60 degree temps may show up in the southeast on Saturday, with low 30s in the north at the same time. Temps then drop through the 20s and into the teens by Sunday morning. All that standing water is going to freeze pretty quickly and this may cause an absolute mess on roads.
That’s especially true if we can throw some snow down at the same time. A band of snow should develop and work across the state Saturday night into early Sunday morning. The European Model has some decent numbers…
The new version of the GFS has some higher amounts…
The GFS continues to be too fast with the lead low, but it’s starting to see the second low…
I will get a first call map out later tonight or early Friday. Snowfall continues to be an enigma because there are still a lot of questions surrounding changeover times for different locations.
Regardless, any amount of snow is going to cause travel issues because of the flash freeze that will be taking place as frigid temps move in through Sunday night and Monday.
It is interesting to note the JMA keeps that second low fairly far south and southeast…
I will have the latest on WKYT-TV at 11 and then back here on KWC late tonight. Have a good one and take care.
Before you criticize CB’s thinking, remember he has told us for two days the models haven’t picked up on the second low yet. That second low is coming into focus now. It will make a diff. How big a diff remains to be seen. I suspect we’ll see things jell by tomorrow evening.
Hope you’re right Tom now they’re is not much talk about accumulation or the snow showers or squalls for Sunday that was once talked about and now the system next week looks like more soaking rain if by chance you hate snow Kentucky is the place to be if you want snow you better head for interstate 70 corridor got it last weekend gonna get it again
Or if you’re real ambitious head northeast I-95 corridor.
Another disappointing snowfall.
Agree. Being in a 2” zone isn’t what I would personally call “a decent amount”!
Ankle biter again
Waiting on the 1st one
2” is a sole skimmer, aspiring to be an ankle biter 😉
I dread the ice!
I really do believe we’re really going to get slammed this time with a lot of frozen precipitation. Old man winter is getting his act together. Can’t wait for the storm.
Thanks Chris. Looks like the debate is on, and I’m going to read and wait. Read the blog and wait to see what you say. It I’m going to make sure we have kerosene and candles. Have a good evening all.
Low looks a lot more south on the 12k nam at 39..

Chris miss having you in West Virginia forecasting the weather. Glade your still close enough to see your forecasts and how they relate to WV.
Looks like a nowcaster. but what else is new, a couple inches of snow look possible, we shall
see?
I will say the a few years ago the JMA was spot on all winter long. Hhhhmmmm is it on to something? That would be a decent hit for most of the state. Sorry Andy Rose!!!! Your not in that most of! LOL
Decent amounts in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio does not mean a thing in Central Ky
