Good Monday, folks. It’s another week featuring a walk that throws more crazy our way. Instead of brutally cold temps and snow like last week, this week is throwing everything but the kitchen sink. Heavy rain, strong storms, near record highs, snow and a big temp crash are all on the way.
The week begins rather tame today with temps in the 60s, with the potential for a few showers rolling through here…
A few rumbles of thunder are possible this afternoon through tonight. Additional scattered stuff is likely on Tuesday as temps run on the mild side.
The main action moves in Wednesday and Thursday as rounds of showers and thunderstorms target the region. The setup is there for several inches of rain to fall during this time, potentially leading to flooding issues. In addition to possible flooding, strong storms will also be possible during this time. As cold air crashes in from behind, some snow may kick in for a time Thursday night and early Friday…

New GFS
The GFS is putting down a ton of rain for many areas…
The Canadian has a similar swath, but is farther south…
That would be more than enough to cause flooding issues and we really need to stay alert to this possibility as we roll forward.
After a cold and dry break on Saturday, another system rolls back in here by Sunday and Monday…
Let’s add those numbers to the rainfall totals…
Canadian
We need the cold to hurry up and completely overpower this setup or we could find ourselves in trouble. Luckily, the European Ensembles are showing that in about a week…
I will hook you up with updates later today. Until then, make it a great Monday and take care.
What a variety of temps this morning here locally. Its starting out at 29 here. Just a few miles away its close to 40
Forty seven degrees here this morning with clear skies. With the zonal flow, weather events will likely continue to be short lived.
Not in the rain department
I don’t expect the heavy rains as we had this past fall and winter. Scattered amounts of isolated rain showers maybe if we are lucky.
Everybody ready for the rain train to roll? Maybe make a run at another record this year. Whatever cold does show up, probably has about a 3 day shelf life at most.
Looking at the various weather maps made available. Most of the snow is falling in the western states and is moving towards the northern plains where cold Arctic air is entering the US. As long as it’s there it’s not going to be here. I heard out of California up to eight feet of snow fell in parts of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Winter is occurring in parts of the US just not in our neck of the woods so far.
Spring is coming
I remember last year we didn’t have a Spring, ( meteorology speaking ) and February 2018 had much above temperatures. I think we are still in the ENSO- neutral pattern as we had last February. Hopefully we will have a change before Autumn 2019.
We also had snow flurries last year on April 15th…..
Wow, this could be the wimpiest winter for snow to date. We got a two day wonder, spring surprise last year.
Not getting snow is really no big deal, unless one likes having a reason to chide the mets.
afraid “winter” is in some serious trouble
The non-stop legend-making weather continues…
“Back-loaded” winter seems in jeopardy. Not even a “next week” snow event to look at on the models – Wow! Rodger in Dodger
