Good evening, folks. We continue to watch a very active weather pattern taking shape for the rest of the week. Heavy rains, strong storms, record highs, some snow and a HUGE temp drop are on the way.
A few showers are showing up this evening, especially across the east. As a cold front inches closer, it will touch off some more scattered stuff tonight…
The front moving in later tonight and early Tuesday has a monster temperature gradient along it. Spring air is ahead of it with bitter cold behind it. That front won’t make it through here, but it will allow for additional waves of showers and thunderstorms to develop along it through Thursday. This means an increased threat for local high water issues. The WPC continues to put most of the state in the risk for flooding…
The European Model is showing the highest totals across north central Kentucky…
The GFS is now farther south than earlier runs with the axis of heaviest rains…
In addition to the high water threat, the potential is there for a few strong storms on Thursday.
Not to be outdone in all this… The temperatures. Highs on Thursday may reach 70-75 in parts of central and eastern Kentucky. From there, temps crash into the 20s by Friday morning and then stay cold. Check out the massive drop…
That’s impressive and would also come with a period of light snow Thursday night.
The models are finally beginning to sense the amount of cold coming in behind this as it tries to overwhelm the pattern next week. The new version of the GFS takes on more of a wintry look with the Sunday system and the ones following it up next week…
The European Model is also showing the cold taking over…
Make it a great rest of your day and take care.
Thanks Chris. You are just full of good news aren’t you? I know, you just snow ‘em, you don’t make ‘em. 😉 Well I guess we buckle up and see where this ride takes us. Have a good night all!
Coffeelady, I like your cheery attitude. It is much appreciated considered all the gloom around here.
Looks like winter is saying ” not so fast”.
Shame big snow does not agree as well. Not even an ankle biter it seems.
Still stubbornly saying one 6 to 8″ snow. Maybe closer to 6″ though….
Temps in the 80’s soon….
The new GFS FV3 is literally garbage in my opinion.
I was out earlier this evening ran into a little rain right after dark. Thanks Chris for all you do! Everyone have a nice night.
