Good Wednesday everyone and welcome to the first day of summer. While the world of meteorology observes the state of summer as June first, your calendar tells you it starts this evening at 7:09pm. Right on cue, we have some toasty temps across much of the region today. This hot spell will hang tough for one more day before we change things up with a much cooler pattern lurking.

Highs today will reach the low and middle 90s across western Kentucky with upper 80s and low 90s across central and eastern Ky. There will be a little more juice available today and this may fire up an isolated thunderstorm or two.

A cold front arrives on the scene late Thursday into early Friday. We should see a decent chance at getting showers and thunderstorms going during this time. The GFS Rainfall Forecast likes the odds…

Highs for Friday and Saturday will be in the low and middle 80s across the eastern half of the state and a little warmer west.

Sunday’s weather looks windy and hot ahead of a very strong cold front that sweeps in by Monday. This front will usher in a pattern that doesn’t look very much like Summer across the eastern half of the country. Check out the setup on the European Model…

That’s a healthy shot of cool air behind this front and the European shows this hanging around for much of next week…

The GFS Ensembles were the first to pick up on this cooler look more than a week ago. They continue to have a very strong signal…

Next week is likely to feature some very pleasant weather that may have you thinking more about September than June.

Have a great first day of summer and take care.
