Good afternoon, folks. Sunny skies are back in the bluegrass state, but our temps remain frigid. This cold air is about to get pushed around by milder air for the weekend, The leading edge of that air is going to produce some light snow, then thunderstorms and high winds move in. March!
The overrunning band of light snow develops in a northwest to southeast band by Thursday night and Friday morning. Here’s the area best in line for a light snowfall…
The forecast models are matching up well with my idea…

Hi Res NAM
The Canadian is farthest south…
The new GFS is farthest north…
Whatever snow is out there early Friday will get wiped out by Friday afternoon as temps climb and a few showers move through.
The weekend storm moving into the plains states is going to be a potent one and that means a lot of wind and storms in our region…
I’ve been talking about the severe potential with this storm for several days and the SPC now has the western half of the state in the risk for Saturday…
With or without severe thunderstorms, wind gusts are going to be a huge problem. 50mph+ gusts will be possible during this time.
I will update the snow and storm threat on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm then on KWC later this evening. Make it a good one and take care.
Just think….4 years ago today much of the state was waking up to 12″+ of heavy wet snow, to go along with record low March temps.
Here in Louisville on east end, we received 15″. Bullitt county had 20″. Lexington area had 15-20″. Ashland and Paducah areas 10-15″. The entire state had a minimum of 3″ and as much as 25″!!
My oh my, seems like forever ago. It was 2015.
Missed on that one too. Lol
That may be are last big snow ? Well at lease mine as I’m getting old. I’m just glad I made that snowman back in 2015 and took a photo of it for a Christmas hanger.
Well, I think I will call this lousy winter over as far as any chances of a major snowfall is concerned. Looking forward to going fishing and warm summer days. #teamspring
Much as i hate a big South East Ridge/Bermuda high or whatever you want to call it would like to see one stretching into Canada or 3000 miles north of Ky..Depressing i tell you depressing..Just when the ground hints at drying a little oh goody look here come’s more rain..
