Good Monday, everyone. A little taste of spring weather is with us and will roll on through the middle of the week. That puts a smile on the face of #teamspring President Weatherdude. Once beyond Thursday, the frown returns as colder than normal temps try to take control of the pattern… Again.
Let’s concentrate on the positive before we get to the negative. Highs today are in the normal 50s as skies stay partly sunny. Temps will take a bit of a hit for Tuesday, but still look to be in pretty good shape.
Southwesterly winds kick in for Wednesday as another potent plains storm system kicks into high gear. That system will develop and roll toward the Great Lakes by Thursday and Friday, bringing a cold front across the state. Highs ahead of this will top out in the 65-70 degree range on Wednesday then into the 70s for Thursday. Woot!
Thunderstorms will then rumble across the bluegrass state as our cold front moves in. Behind this front, temps take a big tumble…
Strong to severe storms, heavy rain and high winds may be noted along this front. Behind it, the colder than normal numbers take over. Can we get some winter weather to go along with the colder temps? The Canadian Model says yes…
The GFS does not…
#teamspring is #teamgfs.
Make it a great Monday and take care.
Thanks Chris, I welcome the early spring weather also after a very depressing winter. However, winter is still going on in other parts of the country and most areas to our north have a wide spread snow pack especially in the north central plains. Everyone is feeling better though because of the time change and the longer days ahead. #teamspring
I like snow, but going outside yesterday in shorts, playing frisbee with my dog, soccer with my son and fishing in the stream in front of my house are all good things. What a nice day yesterday was. Bring on spring.
Annoying team spring is all I hear on this blog from Chris every year… starting feb. 1st.
Maybe has something to do with all rain and no snow… not sure. Or the way off winter snow prediction that was released in November.
Start the team spring chant on March 1st instead not February 1st lol
I sure do get wanting spring on Feb. 1st, especially after a winter like this – long, dreary, rainy. But the truth is we shouldn’t root for spring too early around here, and I like the idea of April being above normal if the cold has to hang around all month of March. It’s a pain but better cold now than later.
I agree after all these flooding winter rains.
Its just annoying when we barely had a winter in Dec. and Jan. Then hear spring, spring, spring starting Feb 1st. Winter suppose to be winter that includes February. Takes the joy out of winter when all you hear is #teamspring none stop a month early.
How about #teamnoflooding rains lol
What an ignorant comment.
Why are the comments ignorant? Its just my observed opinion based on this blog. I realize winter is unpredictable and everyone is entitled to there say. I like spring. I just don’t wish for it in February like some.
No comment is ignorant. I’ve been here pretty much since the inception of the blog(found it by accident, WKYT was on my local cable, I watch, I like CB’s wxcasting as much as anyone here…)and everyone has an opinion. It may or may not be the BEST opinion, but that’s where the “Freedom of Speech” comes alive, right? I’ve not liked some of the comments, and I certainly don’t like the way some are condescending to others on the blog because some seem to think they know things, when it reality, they’re basically just spouting things they’ve gotten off other mets’ blogs or forecasts, but hey…I would like to think that Chris made this blog and comment section for US. Everyone has an opinion. They like what they like, they want what they want, but we DO NOT and CANNOT CONTROL THE WEATHER!!! CB can’t do it. The models can’t do it. Met’s and models can “give a clue” as to what MIGHT happen in a day or two or 1 week, 2 days, 4 hours and about 9 minutes from now, but that doesn’t make it so?!
And you Groundhog followers…? LOL! If he says it’s another 6 weeks of Winter, look at your calendar and do some countin’….it’s pretty much ALWAYS (closeenough…!) 6 weeks until the 1st. Day of Spring(-/+ a day or 3…)
I agree 100% Debbie. Wasn’t blaming CB for the weather as like you said its just not predictable. Like you I’ve been following this blog for years now. No comment is ignorant.
The models this winter couldn’t even get it right an 1 hour out on numerous occasions. Is what it is.
One this I can predict for Mr. Jeff Hamlin is I’m going to be a thorn is his side from here on out.
😉
LOL! I have a good response, but I digress… 🙂
Get him Joey and Debbie!
Thank you Chris, this sunshine will help put some vitamin D back into the body.
A little boy that rides my bus said, Ms Rickie, this is a new day let’s make the best of it. So I’ll share that with you all today.
Have a good one everyone!
I am at a work training today down in Coffeelady’s territory in Somerset. Pretty country here! I haven’t been on 80 down this way since I was kid.
Almost spring and you can see the trees and vegetation starting to respond!
Canadian says yes, GFS says not…..guess the GFS has yet another run to add to its series of wins this season. lol
Unless an epic 1993 re-event (Which I see no remote chance of happening giving the current data), I want nothing to do with even a chance of mix this late. I know it can and does snow even up in April every other year, but those events are rare for several inches. Only a handful in my lifetime have brought more than an inch past March 15th. Only one in April, 1987–cant remember it as I was 4 years old!
Snow is done for the season maybe a flurry here and there.
Never really started haha
It sure didn’t in SE KY. LOL. I guess some of the northern viewers on here had an average winter.
Nope the snow train never left the station sadly….getting ready for spring now.
Terry you’re right and have a good memory. It did snow a few inches in early April 1987…I remember it as the day before the snow was a nice spring type day. I was 16 and a sophomore in HS.
In many areas in the south, this April 3 1987 event is remembered as the Dogwood Snow. It’s Birmingham’s latest measurable snow on record even if there is at least one later trace snow.
Like Terry, I was too young to remember this snowfall.
We were barely out of diapers, lol. People still talk about the 87 April Storm, however. Anyone about 40 and older will really remember this event which is probably the latest over a foot plus for the region in at least the past 100 years plus!
Speaking of that epic 1993 event 😉 , we are practically at the anniversary of the 93 Superstorm now. March 12 and early March 13 were the height of the blizzard conditions. I was a nine year old in Morristown TN at the time. By FAR the biggest snowstorm (the only true blizzard) I have ever experienced. No other snow even comes close.
Crazy that places like Bowling Green and Louisville were too far west to get the more serious snow. Yet cities like Birmingham, Huntsville, Chattanooga, Knoxville into east Kentucky were buried.
And big ole Harlan, KY….https://www.weather.gov/ilm/Superstorm93
