Good Saturday everybody. We have a gorgeous day taking shape across the bluegrass state as sunny skies, low humidity levels and warm temps combine to give us a winner. A surge of heat builds in for Sunday before a cold front works across the state Monday allowing for some September like air to take up residence across much of the eastern half of the country.
Highs today will hit the middle 80s for most of central and eastern Kentucky. The west will be warmer, but everyone will have fairly comfy air in place. Sunny skies will dominate the day.
Hot air blows into town on a gusty southwesterly wind on Sunday. Readings may hit the low 90s across many areas. This heat surge is ahead of a cold front that sweeps in from the northwest on Monday. This front should crank out some scattered showers and storms. Temps on Monday should be much cooler with upper 70s in the north and 80s in the south.
The cool air really kicks in by Tuesday with readings likely staying in the 70s for highs for many areas. Lows will drop toward 50 for a couple of mornings.
The pattern over the next week looks to feature a nice little battle between and heat and cool. Take a look at how the GFS sees the jet stream playing out… ![]()
It’s crazy to see a back and forth temperature pattern like this not produce much in the way of showers and thunderstorms around here.
We will also be watching the Gulf of Mexico and what is likely to become Debby. That will likely have a decent influence on the overall pattern at some point over the next week. Here’s the latest from the National Hurricane Center…

I’m having a baseball weekend with the guys in Cincy. That means the Saturday night post is in jeopardy. 😉
Have a great Saturday and take care.
I wonder if it will actually rain this time
See if you can get the Reds staightened out while you’re up there. I almost as ticked off at them lately as I am mother nature for not giving us rain on a timely basis.
Thanks Chris and enjoy your baseball weekend!
Great forecast. I hope the lower temps win out. Why don’t you tell us your opinion on the entire summer. Are we going to fry or live like normal humans with normal temps?
Thanks, Chris. Hoping to see some rain in the next few days. Beautiful morning out there this morning! sunshine, low humidity, and a light breeze. A perfect summer day!
Have a great tim3e in Cincy. Maybe you can bring the boys in red some luck! We’ll be looking for you on the Reds cam! 😉
Rain, rain, go away, come again another day…. Okay, it’s time for the “another day” to happen. My yard is looking awful brown, we could really use a good rainy day.
Can anybody explain why we aren’t getting any rain? We were all anticipating a horrible severe weather season and I can’t think of a single warning for Bourbon County since March 2. Usually our dry summers are due to a big high pressure ridge sitting off the coast. What’s happening this year?
Welcome back to our town Chris. ILN is mentioning temps could hit the middle 90’s with heat indices going up to 100 by Thursday-Friday. No thanks!
I’m noticing temperatures are staying up during the day due to the dry conditions. 88 yesterday in Lexington is an example.
I’m starting to hear comparisons to the 1988 drought. This is shaping up to be a long, dry summer. Maybe not with extreme heat, however.
Going to be an interesting summer that’s for sure. Super dry already. Wonder if that will lead to big time heat in July and August.
Well it looks like the cooler temps came in just like the rain 🙁 just as hot only not as humid and no breeze
