Good Monday to one and all. Right on cue, our stormy pattern kicked off with a bang over the weekend. Severe thunderstorms and flooding rains pounded much of the region and this is just the beginning. Additional rounds of heavy rain producing thunderstorms will likely cause issues over the next week.
If you’re a regular reader of the blog, you know this pattern has been well advertised. A front is stalling on top of the Ohio Valley and will essentially stay there through the rest of the week into the weekend. At the same time, several waves of low pressure will develop along the boundary…
That means waves of showers and thunderstorms will continue to impact the bluegrass state during this time. These storms will be loaded with torrential rains, likely producing flooding issues from time to time. These storms may also pose a severe weather threat.
Similar to Sunday, we have that potential again out there today…
Damaging winds and large hail will be the main players with any strong or severe storm going up. That’s not just the case for today, but it’s basically the case each day this week and into the weekend.
The flash flood threat is fairly high as several inches of rain will fall. If you live in a flood prone area, please keep a close eye out when storms develop because they can put down a ton of rain in a hurry.
Here are your Monday storm tracking tools…
Make it a great Monday and take care.
It’s just comical at this point..
88 degrees for a high yesterday and mostly sunny as it finally feels like Summer weather has arrived in my county. That front to our north really means business. The high pressure to our south will have to erode some before we can get in on the rain action though.
Not a drop of rain here in my backyard over the weekend. Pocket drought beginning in my county as the dry winds blow.
We just got 3 drops on a brick bat a few minutes ago. LOL
I recall the days when my computer would get stuck on a screen, the only thing I could do was turn it off and reboot.
Well, I’m thinking we should turn off the weather and reboot. This pattern we’re stuck in is getting old.
So am I LOL
Not one drop in Harlan. I think I live in the only county that literally has 180 different weather from the rest of the state. Everyone else floods…not a drop. Harlan floods, the rest of the state is usually missing the action. Same for snow too!
Terry, I bet your right on the snow theory. Harlan does however get the most snow on average in the state. The most snow I’ve seen here in the hills above Campbellsville was 28 inches and that was in the late winter of 2016. Not sure on the exact date.
Up high. We dont get crap for snow in the valley area most years. Every now and then, we get decent valley snow when the pattern is right for App runners or a good Lake Effect set-up, which has been absent in past few years!
Yeah, disturbances from Lake Michigan combining with an Appalachian Runner would bury most of central and all of eastern Kentucky big time in heavy snow. Hope this scenario plays out this coming Winter.
It rained here this morning for about half hour just enough to bring the humidity up along with the dew point. These little showers with some Sun mixed in will make it oppressive. Well it’s Summer at noon on Friday officially. Autumn will be here before we know it. I just hope we have the 1976 weather pattern.
Looks like my luck of dry may run out. Looks interesting, almost severe to my west!
We got nearly 3 inches of rain Sunday in Covington, KY. The Peaselburg neighborhood had lots of flooded out basements. I saw a lot of stuff on the curbs in front of those poor people’s homes, and lots of sediment, rocks and limbs that washed down the street.
The rain is avoiding Harlan. I have recorded a whopping 0.02 since Saturday!
The heavens have unleashed another one…at least 0.75″ in 25 minutes and still pouring here at my place in Valley Station.
