Good Thursday everyone and thanks for dropping by the blog. We have been waiting and waiting and waiting on rain to help us out and it looks like our wait is just about over. Waves of showers and thunderstorms will kick in today and carry us through the upcoming weekend. The net result will be drought denting rains across the entire state.
Headline time…
– Scattered storms will be possible early today with the best chance across the south.
– Showers and storms will slowly increase from south to north this afternoon into the evening and will become more widespread.
– A disturbance will move northward into the state late tonight and Friday and this should act to enhance the showers and storms. Locally heavy rainfall will be a good bet and this may lead to localized flash flooding.
– Deep moisture remains in place through the upcoming weekend and this will lead to more rounds of showers and storms. Locally heavy rains will again be possible.
– Rainfall through Sunday is likely to average 1″-3″ across much of the state. Higher amounts are certainly possible for those areas getting in on repeat thunderstorm action.
Additional showers and storms will be possible into much of next week as our pattern continues to take on a different look than the one of the past few months.
Here’s your regional radar to track the progress of today’s rain…

I will have updates as needed. Have a great Thursday and take care.
TN sure has been enjoying the rain this week. I hope that is a good thing and means that since they aren’t dry that the rains will have an easier time entering KY.
That radar is becoming a beautiful site! PLEASE hold together.
I have been getting beneficial rains for days now here in knox co.. everything is finally going green again!!..I sure hope you all that havent had any rain gets some soon…I feel your pain. it was a month since i had any measureable rain..but I have mangaged to get almost 5″ since sunday!!..Im sending it north…lol.
Send it north and west. I’ve had less than a half inch of rain since Mothers Day and if we don’t get some significant rain out of this event than we are in serious trouble. Never seen it this dry in my 42 years.
The desert dome in Frankfort is not going down without a fight so far, rain is even developing 50to100 miles north of here but yet we remain dry???
Same here in Louisville. The storms just fall apart and fade away as soon as they cross into Jefferson County. Looks like another under performing chance of rain. I honestly just give up, let everything die.
Watch the latest radar folks, this is just crazy, the heavy rain that was coming straight toward Frankfort is drying up! Most of KY will get good rains the next few days, very doubtful Frankfort gets any at this point!!
Got a little shower here in Southern Franklin Co. Praying for more. My uncle is having to irrigate just to try to keep his crops alive. Unk needs a break from packing pipes.
Not one drop of rain in east Frankfort and radar is drying up, This big rain forecast has got a lot of work to do in order to stop the drought in Frankfort?”??????????
absolutely nothing….except Phoenix in KY
Ok, now I see that the main rain is shifting east of central KY, this should not be a big SURPRIZE for us folks in this area, the forecast for heavy rain in this area will be backed off big time by this time tomorrow!
Chris, all do respect, but you must know in your gut that this will not be the drought buster that looked good yesterday! The models are trash during this current drought in Ncentral KY and you know it? 50% chance of rain tonight and nothing on radar????
Amazing..I see the the Precipitation Dome in Jefferson County consumes rain as eagerly as it does snow…my garden weeps dust.
