Good Monday, everyone. Our potent cold front is rolling into the region today, bringing the potential for strong to severe storms. This front is also going to be a very windy one as much colder air presses in behind this for the next few days. This continues to be part of a very active pattern for late October and one that will take on more of a winter look across the country.
As always, we begin with what’s happening out there today. A line of showers and thunderstorms will develop and roll from west to east across the state.
Damaging winds will be the main threat from the storms as they move through. In addition to the high winds, these storms will pack a lot of rain. Some areas may pick up 1″-2″ of rain from these fall boomers. I will have your tracking toys in a bit.
Much colder air comes in behind this for Tuesday. Winds will be very gusty as temps likely stay in the 50s for much of the day. Wednesday and Thursday still look good with near normal temps and dry skies.
The late week\weekend system continues to be a bit of a mystery in how it unfolds. The models continue to be in similar camps that they’ve been in the past few days. The GFS is super progressive with the storm…
The Canadian is in the camp of the recent European runs as it slowly brings out a big storm system…
Like most things, I suspect the truth lies somewhere in between those solutions. It is interesting to note how the Canadian is also mirroring the European in how it handles the next system early next week. Watch this massive plains storm unleash arctic air behind it and try to bring it east…
Another update comes your way later today. Until then, I leave you with today’s storm tracking tools…
Possible Watch Areas
Have a great day and take care.
Rainfall for my neck of the woods so far have been nothing short of disappointing. So far just a couple of light showers not enough to wet the ground. Just a few days back it looked like a solid 1-2 inches unless something changes real quick that’s not going to remotely happen.
Just started raining at Clays Ferry. Ready for a deluge.
Although CB’s forecast for SOME areas to get 1-2″ did indeed verify, I’m sure the other 80 % of us are wondering “what happened?”
These nearly busted forecasts are setting a less than favorable precedent for the upcoming winter. And don’t get me started on that, because, the “entertainment value” of so-called winter forecasts are just around the corner. It’s amazing how anyone (not just CB by the way) can predict how many inches of snow will fall in a season but cannot predict a week out how much will fall because of not enough data. But you’ll see. People are going to be told what they want to hear, not what they need to hear…all entertainment.
Was there any severe storms in Kentucky? I gotta agree forecast in my opinion was a bust. Today was suppose to be a flat out miserable day weather wise strong winds heavy rain possible flash flooding. I had gusty winds for a few hours. All in all not a bad day weather wise.
And here we go with the low-key hot takes bagging on CB.
Sorry you don’t like the truth Jeff
None of this was the truth and you flat out know it. Western Kentucky was actually under a Tornado Watch and I never said there would be severe weather. Saying strong storms are possible isn’t saying severe storms are coming and the whole day is miserable.
You are totally false yet again.
Hamlin, if you would get your head out of CB’s you know what, you might just might see that’s it’s ok for CB to blow a forecast it happens. I’m not sure what it is with you and your tunnel vision when it comes to CB. CB could forecast lollipops and candy canes falling from the sky and you’ll be the first to defend him. When a forecast is a bust it’s a bust.
A bust? Many areas got between 1″-2″ of rain and western Kentucky was under a tornado watch. Get a flipping clue.
The forecast wasn’t a bust or even close. Your interpretation of the forecast is what lets you down each and every time. The forecast was for SOME areas to get 1″-2″ and that’s what happened. You assume you will be the “some” when you weren’t.
It’s been a perfect weather day here, I got up prepared for winds and heavy rain and it’s been 80 degrees and sunny, not a single drop of rain here!!!!!
