Good Tuesday afternoon, folks. It’s a very active pattern setting up and it’s one that looks a lot like the heart of winter. That will be complete with very cold shots and even the potential for winter weather. I don’t have much time, so let’s get after it.
The system moving in on Thursday will have widespread soaking rains with it. Some areas could push 1″ of rain on a system the American models like the GFS couldn’t even see until recently. Now the model has it firmly in sight and even shows the potential for a few flakes mixing in as the cold crashes in from the northwest Thursday evening…
I want to keep driving this home to illustrate the bias of the GFS. It’s way too progressive with every trough and every system and that isn’t boding well for it’s worshipers.
The air behind that front will be frigid on Friday. We re in the low and mid 20s to start with a wind chill in the teens. Highs may not get out of the 30s for many.
The poor GFS continues its progressive bias with the next system moving in late Sunday and early next week. The other models continue to be more consistent with an arctic front and possible wave of low pressure developing along the boundary.. That could enhance our chances for light snow…

There is the CHANCE for our first snowfall of the season early next week. No, it’s not even close to being a certainty, but the CHANCE is there.
The arctic air coming in behind is brutally cold for this early in November. We may even set record lows.

I really think this cold coming is going to be a big shocker to a lot of people including me. It hasn’t been that long ago we were really warm. Now this is on the table for us. I can’t take the cold like I use to. I still like to see it snow but I prefer T shirt weather.
Just wanted to add this to. In October 16, 1950 I was born. A month later this happened.The Great Appalachian Storm hit.
As much as 62 inches of snow blanketed the Ohio Valley and Northeast in November 1950. My dad said the snow was as high as the fence posts in places where I leave in Southeast Ohio.

You’d think one would out-grow it, right?! Nope! I’m 57, and the more we have, the happier I am! 🙂 I miss the big ones we had in the 70’s…and of course, ’94. I can even get excited about a good ice storm. I know. I’m weird. 🙂

That said, my wife, and my brother, and my brother’s wife…. all love snow 😉
True, the weather weenie in me still likes to track snowstorms. But my wife is open to us retiring down south. Whether we will be able to several decades from now may be another question!
I’ve always said, “If it’s going to be cold it might as well snow! Because there is nothing, I mean nothing worse than rain between 35-55 degrees.”
I’m excited to see how it all plays out. As a child I remember well there being snow on the ground Thanksgiving Day and several of the men in the family would go rabbit hunting on Thanksgiving Morning before the big Dinner.
I remember them talking about the snow it was just right to track a rabbit and still good for the dogs.
Me and my Dad and one of my brothers did that very thing while my mom got things ready for Thanksgiving. Thanks for bringing back a memory for me to.
I’ll take temperatures of 77-85 degrees with sunshine and low humidity you just cannot beat that.
You’re right. But would you seriously want to live somewhere that had those temps and sunny year-round with virtually no weather?
