Good Wednesday, everyone. While today is a very nice weather day, things are about to change in a hurry as Old Man Winter shows up earlier than normal around here. We have a couple of big time cold shots heading our way and each of those could be accompanied by some flake action.

Today is a nice one as clouds increase and temps reach the low 60s in many areas. Some late day rain will show up in the west…

The rain really ramps up tonight into Thursday and could be heavy at times. Cold air quickly crashes in here from north to south Thursday into Thursday evening and may switch over to a period of rain/snow mix or a brief period of light snow and flurries.

The NAM is seeing this better…

So does the GFS…

That’s some very cold air crashing in here. Lows have a shot at the upper teens in a few spots by Friday morning…

Wind chills are way down into the low and middle teens by Friday morning…

Highs on Friday likely stay in the 30s for many areas, setting the stage for another frigid night. Saturday looks seasonally cold with a small chance for a morning snow flurry.

Our arctic front then drops our way late Sunday into Monday. Temps ahead of this spike into the 50s on Sunday then come tumbling down on Monday as the front blows in. This front may have a wave of low pressure develop along it and the models are seeing more and more of this potential, including the GFS…

So our idea from a week ago of a wave of low pressure along an arctic front has merit, but it still isn’t a lock. That could bring the first light snowfall of the season to parts of our region. Again, it’s not a lock, but it’s interesting to track.

Temps behind that arctic front could challenge record lows by Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

There could be a potent southern stream storm system trying to follow all this up.

I will have updates later today, so check back. Have a good one and take care.
