Good Wednesday everyone and thanks for dropping by KWC. You will be noticing some more changes to the site in the coming weeks as we continue to move forward and expand things. Sit back and enjoy the ride. 🙂 The big weather news ahead of us is the shot of cool air blowing in by Friday. Getting to that point may become a problem with the threat for strong and severe storms.
Let’s begin with today and work forward. Highs will hit the upper 80s and low 90s across the central and east with upper 90s in the far west. The readings over the past few days have really shown what a difference drought verses a moist ground can make. That should do its thing once again today. I can’t rule out a scattered shower or thunderstorm going up.
The action kicks into high gear on Thursday as a potent system dives into the Ohio Valley from the northwest. This is being pushed by a blast of well below normal temps moving in from Canada. You can see the development of this system on the European Model…
That track and the dynamics associated with this storm continues to get my attention as it could mean an outbreak of severe weather for the Ohio Valley on Thursday. That is something we will need to keep a close eye on.
That fall looking storm system will have some early fall like temperatures behind it. Some parts of the state may see 70s for highs from Friday through Sunday with lows dropping into the 50s. The GFS is on the cool train…
Looks like September to me! We will have to watch for an instability shower over the weekend as that cold pool of air settles in.
Let’s have a little look ahead fun like we do about this time every year. The super duper long range CFS daily forecast wants to pull a little Halloween Trick on us this year…
“I’m dreaming of a white Halloween… just like the one I used to know in 1993”. Come on and sing it with me 🙂
Have a great Wednesday and take care.
Ahhh yeah now we’re talking!! Snow baby!!!!
Where the treetops glisten,
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow
Snow mixed in with rain this past Halloween weekend last year when we were in the Cave Run area. I’ll take it
I like the way you think, Chris. Let the snow talk begin!
Yep…yesterday the high at CVG was 95 and at LEX it was 89.
LEX has had above normal rainfall since June 1st but up here at CVG they have had less than 50% of normal rainfall in the same timeframe. Most locations around here in the Cincinnati area are doing OK but not the area around the airport.
Every summer I tell myself to enjoy the heat and long days and to not dream of cool fall days/nights. Every year I fail miserably and by August, I am sick of heat and can’t wait for that first cool day. This is early, indeed, but I am very happy about the forecast. 🙂
Amen. I’m usually more than ready for Fall by the time August rolls around. All things considered, August is the worst month of the year. The hot, sticky weather seems to just linger, nothing really going on in the sports world. Just a blah month
I’m usually ready for fall by the time August gets here as well. Bring on the Halloween snow. lol
Oh how well I remember Halloween 93. My sister was in marching band & went to state finals in Bowling Green. It POURED snow! This year, both of my children are in marching band & have to lie on the ground during their marching show. Halloween will be about the time we go to State Semifinals in Louisville. Bring the snow!
I remember that one.
Oct 31st in 93 most of Frankfort got about 1 in. Of snow, I remember watching the news out of Louisville where they had 2 or 3 inches and they were sledding in some of the parks 🙂
well ROLO says like the SUPER DUPPER long ranch modAls.
OMG…
After 15 years I’ve come to the realization that getting excited and looking forward to snow in Kentucky is exactly the same as getting excited and looking forward to a winning season for UK football. I’ll be dissapointed. 🙁
According to records, even Nashville recorded about a half inch of snow in Oct 1993. It’s one of only three Octobers since 1884 that the Music City has recorded measurable snow!
I was a six year old in east TN in 93, so I don’t recall what if anything happened there. However, this was on the heels of the incredible Blizzard of 93 the previous March; that I will never forget.
Thanks for the eye candy Chris, we know the odds of predicting snow in KY is not good even in January, but it is fun to dream!
NWS Louisville is not ruling out an isolated twister for Thursday night’s predicted severe weather. Mainly north and along the Ohio River.

True, Kentucky has never recorded tornadoes stronger than F2/EF2 during July/Aug/Sept. These records go back to the 1880s and before. But even if this trend remains intact (this has been anything but a typical year), an EF1 can still destroy a mobile home.
The Thursday night threats with the higher likelihoods will be strong damaging winds, hail and perhaps some flash flooding.
Totally remember the snowy Halloween of ’93. I had to wear my long, wool coat while I took my 3-year old son out to trick-or-treat.
I am so ready for ankle-deep snow! I have missed it these past few winters. Bring it on!
