Good Saturday everyone. Our weekend is off and running and it is nothing short of three kinds of awesome. The blast of fall air arrived right on cue Friday as a cold front worked across the state. This early fall pattern looks to continue over the next couple of weeks and has a chance to take us into the actual start of early fall.

Highs today will run in the mid and upper 70s across much of central and eastern Kentucky. Upper 70s and low 80s will be common across the west. Skies will be partly sunny and a nice breeze will continue to blow.

Sunday will begin with temps in the 50s with some patchy fog. Another sunny day is on tap with readings near 80 in the east and 80-85 in the west.

Things begin to change a bit on Monday as clouds increase ahead of our next system. A weak area of low pressure will come charging through the Ohio Valley Monday afternoon into early Tuesday and bring scattered showers and storms. The NAM…

That’s another system that doesn’t look very much like what you would expect in the middle of August. Temps will be in the 80s on Monday and come back down closer to 80 by Tuesday.

The models continue to show a tremendous amount of blocking in the higher latitudes and this allows for cool air to drop into the eastern part of the country. Check out the European Model height anomaly map for the 6-10 day period…

That’s a heck of a block showing up on the models across Greenland. That’s something that hasn’t shown up very much since the winter before last. Could this be a sign of an overall shift in the pattern across the northern hemisphere? Time will tell.

Back to the point at hand… next weekend should try to go cool again. The same European Model shows the cool air diving back in…

Have a great Saturday and take care.
