Good Wednesday, everyone. It’s a seasonally cold day across Kentucky as a weak cold front drops in from the north. From there, the focus is on a a milder overall look as we inch closer to Christmas and on a southern storm system that tries to impact our weather.
Let’s start with what’s going on out there today and roll forward. We still have several counties under a Flood Warning…
A weak cold front is crossing the state today, bringing the chance for a snowflake to the north and northeast…
Temps will range from the upper 20s north to the middle 30s in the south. Gusty winds will make it feel much colder and that’s a trend that will take us through early Thursday.
Temps by Thursday afternoon shoot into the upper 30s north to upper 40s west. This kicks off a milder period with temps reaching the 50s for some Friday into the weekend.
At the same time, a massive storm system will be working slowly across the deep south. This will bring a lot of wind and rain to that part of the world, but can it get far enough north to impact our weather? I continue to maintain this is a possibility.
The GFS Ensembles are seeing this…
Many of the operational models are still way south, but they’re coming north a bit. The Canadian actually brings some rain into the state…
Regardless, this is a mild pattern as we head into Christmas week. That will change late in the week, but things aren’t going to feel much like the season as the Grinch does some work.
I will have updates later today. Make it a good one and take care.
Stop teasing Chris….we know SE KY will get more rain this weekend as NW shift lives on and that ole Grinch is green!
Right at 54 inches year to date precip at KLEX. Last year was 70 (ish) inches (all-time record wettest). I don’t think 44 inches annual precip (which is supposedly normal) is normal here anymore. We almost always beat that by a significant amount.
anyway——
this mild weather may be a good thing. Lots of years have had zero snow or cold until AFTER Christmas. I think some of the great 70s winters didn’t get started until the new year. OR……it could just stay like this the rest of the winter. Wouldn’t that be fun??? 🙂
Harlan’s annual precip average is suppose to be 48 inches, but since the 2000s, most years have been closer to 60 inches. Snow is suppose to be 15 inches (valley) much higher on the peaks. But unlike Lexington, Louisville and other larger towns throughout KY, Harlan is very generic for weather data and not a lot of “official” data to go by. All I know is this: Since my childhood, annual average snowfall is declining and annual average rainfall has greatly increased since 1980s.
I think it’s the Earth’s tilt that is causing our Winters to be farther north.
Pretty sure that is not the reason. I’ll stick with increased amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere.
Tilt is more likely than that 😉
I’m in the mood now for some old school pinball.
Don’t feed the trolls please…
If I’m a troll. What are you ?
No sir you are wrong as always. Carbon dioxide is needed by plants and we along with other animals need the Oxygen ( the by product) to survive here on Earth and there is no viable evidence that Carbon dioxide is causing climate change/ global warming. I’m sick and tired of you liberals crying about climate change/ global warming and actually think it can be reverse. Just another scam that is going on in our great country The United States of America.
Cry us a river Schroeder…..How about leaving politics elsewhere. I don’t (nor no one else) come here to see that garbage….I can open Facebook if i want to see that…..it don’t belong here and I’m sure CB will agree.
Does this site contain all liberals ? I would say yes because it is CBS. Well I’m a strong Conservative !!!
then by that statement alone makes you not only ignorant of any fact based issue but a dumb*** as well.
I don’t have to go to Face book because there is politics in everything.
Currently sitting at 63 inches of rain for the year. I’m looking forward to more we gotta break the record. 🙂
Yuck!
Numbers don’t lie….
For this decade (2010-2019), Lexington has recorded just 3 top ten COLDEST months. Louisville even less, with just 2.
However, top ten WARMEST months, since 2010, Lexington has recorded 23 . Louisville 26.
Bowling Green 23 top ten WARMEST months this decade
Frankfort, a little more balanced at 16 WARMEST to 11 COLDEST top ten months
Who cares Mike S. I’m in a bad mood today. Must be the Weather LOL
