Good Thursday, everyone. It’s been a wetter than normal and cooler than normal month, so it’s fitting for April to end with chilly showers. As we flip the calendar to May, our temps get set to soar this weekend. That’s the good news. The bad news is… it won’t last for long.
Let’s begin with today and roll forward. Winds are very gusty from the northwest and may reach 30mph at times as temps range from the upper 40s to middle 50s. Numerous showers will be around for many, especially central and eastern Kentucky…
It’s not the perfect setup, but I’m wondering if we can get a cold air funnel out of this? Hmm
Clouds will slowly break up from west to east on Friday and there could even be a leftover shower early. The high temps for Friday are up a bit on the Euro…
What would have been Kentucky Derby Saturday looks awesome with plenty of sun and temps that are very warm…
Sunday could be even warmer with the potential for 80-85 degree temps showing up for a little more of the state…
That will be on a gusty southwest wind ahead of our next system working in here late Sunday into Sunday night. This could bring a line of strong storms to town…
Temps rebound behind that, but the next system quickly zips in by the middle of the week. That one may bring more ugly our way later next week…
The pattern continues to be skewed colder than normal into the middle of May and could set us up for a late season frost threat at some point. The GFS Ensembles are skewed way colder than normal…
There are really only two weather patterns that upset me… Cold in the spring and warm around Christmas. Guess I’ve been upset a lot lately, huh? š
Have a great day and take care.
The last time I remember a frost in May was 2002 during my first Spring as a KY resident.
I remember frost in June in the year 1992.
Brace yourselves for a long, hot summer.
It’s okay, but we will want Summer only in the months of June, July and August. lol
I hope so as long as we can end the pattern of four or five days of rain each week. Would love to live in a climate with more sunshine and just enough rain to stay out of drought status. The new Kentucky climate is just not good for the soul..
Thanks Chris, With temperatures approaching 80 degrees this weekend is a start in the right direction. We need the ridge out west to move into the Ohio Valley but for only a couple of weeks. What upsets me is no snow on the ground on Christmas Day and snow showers and cold on Easter Sunday Ugh !
Iām perfectly fine with chilly in Spring.. I dread the hot sticky 70 dew point crap.
Yeah, when the dew point gets above 70 degrees everyone suffers.
Yesterdays gloomy weather ended up with a very defined “rainbow.” Anyone else see this ?
being upset is an understatement. the roller coaster temps we have are insane. you never know, 75 one day, frost the next. this is absolutely about to drive me nuts. as if a deadly pandemic wasn’t bad enough, having all this going on with dreary outright depressing February/march type weather in may is taking a toll. getting outside would help. piddling around the house without winter attire this late in the year would help. i think i suffer from S.A.D. sometimes I just wanna curl up in a corner and cry š
It’s going to be Okay Justin. We will get back, but it will be a different World that we will have to get use to. As far as the weather goes that will change too. Just take one day at a time. God bless to you and your family.
something as simple as a warm sunny day really does make all the difference for me. im eagerly looking forward to the end of my furlough and brighter, warmer days ahead. thank you for your kind words, they are appreciated.
Your welcome Justin. We shall all look forward to Sunny and warmer days ahead. Take care and stay well.
