Good Wednesday everyone. Our stormy pattern is off and running as rounds of boomers take aim at the bluegrass state. The first cluster was a doozy on Tuesday and similar storms will be likely today and through the next few days. These storms may end up causing some issues… especially in the heavy rain department.
These storms are firing along a nearly stationary boundary that’s draped from west to east across the lower Ohio Valley. Cool air to the north is bumping up against warm, moist air to the south of the front and that is helping to fuel the storms. Many areas picked up 1″-2″ on Wednesday and each storm complex can drop similar totals as they roll through here. If the same areas get in on repeat activity, flooding will become an issue.
We will also have to keep a close eye on the possibility of strong or severe storms. There’s enough instability present to get these bad boys to crank up and that’s something I will be monitoring.
I have you all set to track today’s storms…

I will have updates as needed and will send out quick updates via twitter: @kentuckyweather . Have a great Wednesday and take care.
We really had weird clouds and a LOT of very streaking lightning yesterday with the storms that rolled through here. Parts of the county got over an inch of rain, while we only got about 4 tenths. But we did get some small hail, as well, and the winds were fierce, blowing limbs out of trees. Guess there is a chance for more.
Heard the storms going through about 1am. woke me up. but little storms and rain are the best for sleeping weather.lol :O)
Have to say I felt the loudest thunder I have ever heard in my life yesterday and longest as well. Lightning hit really, really close and then the sound boomed. Whole house shook, windows rattled, hairs stood on end, and it really rolled for a long few seconds. Could not believe it. I am not one of freak out but I could not imagine if I was. Fun weather.
saw a rainbow at 7:45 AM this morn, dont think i have ever seen one that early in the day! had some rain and a little thunder last night but nothing major, had a cpl down pours today but not bad!
Why hasn’t the Storm Prediction Center sent out a Mesocale Discussion yet? Storms out in Western KY look pretty nasty and there are storms popping up across the state? Are they gonna goof up again?
Storms have been training about 25 miles north of Frankfort for at least a couple of hours now, not much movement southward, the storms around Louisville might make here in a few hours but not looking as likely as forecast made it sound earlier! Front must not be dropping as far south as earlier predicted?
