Good afternoon, everyone. It sure is nice to see the sun across the Commonwealth today as temps hang out around the normal level to a little above for some. The focus going forward continues to be on a very busy pattern and the first system arriving later tonight into Tuesday. This is a weak clipper dropping in from the northwest and looks to bring a touch of light rain and light snow with it.

This system will mainly impact central and eastern Kentucky and the key word on this is “light”. Check out the future radar from the Hi Res NAM…

The setup behind this is for a bowling ball looking system to roll eastward across the Tennessee Valley by Thursday and Friday. This will bring the potential for winter weather into Kentucky, especially across the south and southeast.

Here’s how the EURO sees it…

And the GFS…

Again, we will have to watch to see just how far north this thing actually winds up. Stay tuned.

The system behind this continues to look like a more typical winter storm system coming from southwest to northeast by late Sunday into early next week. The models will continue to figure out how to play this for a while…

The GFS went from a Great Lakes cutter to a low along the Outer Banks…

This is the system that begins week two of January, the timeline I’ve been hitting at for a few weeks now as being the start of a very wintry pattern. What happens before then is bonus stuff, but you’re already seeing the affects of blocking showing up with snow chances into the south.

The Ensembles have their best look yet for next week and beyond. I’ll share those on my next update. Have a good one and take care.
