Good afternoon, everyone. We continue to track a very light snow maker into the region and this will likely put down some accumulations. The best chance is still across the southeast, but a little offshoot band of light snow tries to set up farther north for a time tonight.
A few quick thoughts:
- This is not a widespread event and there will be several areas that get ZERO out of this.
- The offshoot band of light snow looks to set up across the Interstate 64 corridor later this evening into the wee hours of Friday. This is pretty light and will decrease as it lifts north. Light is the key word, folks.
- The main band of snow hits the southern Appalachian Mountains, but the northern edge of that will try to set up across far southeastern Kentucky. This is an area where we need to do some play by play with as we watch to see exactly where this sets up.
- As all this winds down, watch for a period of snow showers and flurries to kick in Friday night and Saturday.
Again, this isn’t a big event, but I decided to go ahead and make a First Call For Snowfall map…
I put the entire state in the coating -1″ area, but many in this won’t see much, if anything. I highlighted the area where that light snow band tries to set up. Far southeastern Kentucky is walking the fine line between a coating to 1″ and 3″+. That’s the area where things can change quickly with the forecast.
The models are showing the fine line for this area…

You can clearly see that band of light snow near the Interstate 64 corridor on each of those models.
I will have the latest on WKYT starting at 4pm then again with a KWC update this evening. I leave you with your radars for the day…
Make it a good one and take care.

At this point in Winter we’ll take it here in Central Kentucky an inch or less or none.
I hope the NAM weather model pans out for Tennessee. Wow ! From 7″ in Nashville to 15″ in Knoxville.
Gosh… snowfall for portions of Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina and even Northern Georgia the next few days, but no snowfall for the Chicago area for the next week!
Remember, Mike….according to our local L-Ville mets, Chicago has had “more than their fair share of snow this season thus far”…now, don’t go wanting to hog it all!!!! 😀
Wouldn’t be surprised if we picked up 2-3 inches here. These systems have a tendency to go 50~ miles more north than the models show.
Yea,you never know about these bowling ball lows or ULL or whatever there called.Have a mind of there own.Just need a tiny little NW shift.
Starting to kind of sense a similar year when we got snow early on and then hardly nothing afterwards. The models seem to be going back to the looking good a week or so out and then nothing much when closer in. Curious also if the blocking pushes out as each week progresses- all the way to Spring, That has happened a few times as well. No harm no foul for me, since see snow more as work now, but a lot of folks love it!
Then again, a lot of us already got more snow than the last few years combined. Richmond got more than last winter, just with 2″.
