Good afternoon, everyone. Snow showers and flurries are lingering across eastern and southeastern Kentucky as that northwest flow does some work. From here, the focus continues to be on a messy setup coming our way for the weekend with a snowy setup right behind that for the first few days of February.

Let’s start with your regional radar to track those flakes still going strongĀ  across the east and southeast…

With our weekend system rolling in here late Saturday into Saturday night, there’s the increasing threat for a wintry mess and snow on the front end of this for parts of the state. The best chance appears to be from the Lexington metro north and northeast, with a thumping snow possible in the Covington/Cincy areas and north.

Here’s the GFS snow map into Sunday…

That even tries to start this out as some snow in the far southeastern Kentucky mountains. The GFS doesn’t see much freezing rain or mix with this…

The EURO is a little more broad with the flake chance…

The Short Range Canadian has a healthier snow look…

It also shows better coverage of the freezing rain…

The NAM is finally picking up on all this…

All this goes over to plain rain on Sunday as temps spike briefly. From there, low pressure weakens over West Virginia and transfers energy to the main low in the east. That sets up a strong northwest flow with a few impulses diving in here Monday and Tuesday. The end result will be accumulating snow in central and, especially, eastern Kentucky…

I’ll try to throw you another update this evening, but no promises. If not, I’ll see you guys back here later tonight.

Enjoy the rest of the day and take care.
