Good Wednesday, everyone. The day is starting out with a record snowfall working from west to east, making one of the latest true snowfalls on record for this part of the world. Cold wind are pushing the snow through here and will usher in freezing temps for the next few mornings.
Our very early morning band of snow is leaving behind coatings to upwards of an inch or two on a local scale. This is historic. For some, it’s the latest measurable snowfall on record. For others, it’s among the latest on record.
This will melt fairly quickly this morning as skies become partly cloudy. A pocket of very cold air then moves overhead this afternoon and evening, bringing the potential for some rain, sleet and snow showers for some areas. I can’t rule out some thunder and lightning with this. We may also see one more mix chance later tonight or into Thursday across the east.
Here are your radars to track the early snow and to follow the rain and snow showers that fire up this afternoon and evening…
A freeze is likely by Thursday morning with temps in the upper 20s for many. The rest of the day finds temps in the 50s.
After another frosty start on Friday, temps hit the 60-65 degree range during the afternoon as clouds increase. Those clouds are ahead of another shower making moving in for Saturday…
As this system moves away, MUCH BETTER weather moves in early next week. Highs on Monday may flirt with 70 then it’s game on for temps to make a run at 80 for the middle of the week…
This will be ahead of what looks to be a potent storm system arriving by the end of the week. This could be a severe weather threat…
The concern is this system cuts off from the main flow and hangs around into Kentucky Derby weekend. That wouldn’t be a good thing.
I may update things later today, so check back. Make it a good one and take care.
Looking at the 2:48 AM EDT radar, heavy snow is approaching Lexington, it’s snowing heavily in Frankfort, with light snow in Louisville and Bowling Green. The southward extent of the snow goes all the way down to just north of Nashville… pretty impressive for April 21st!
Only a trace of snow was recorded Tuesday at Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway Airports, while 1.1 inches fell at the NWS forecast office in the SW Suburbs before quickly melting.
Close to a half inch of Snow here in Taylor county with a temperature of 32 degrees F.
Has to be one for the record books.
Yea – I’m not 100% sure, but I remember reading something about central KY and Lexington area had a six inch snowfall in mid May…….not sure when that was. But as for this……looks the same here 32 with snow on grass….
