Good Wednesday to one and all. It’s a cooler and calmer day across the Commonwealth but we have more storms on the way. Some of these storms may be strong or severe from late Thursday into Kentucky Oaks Day Friday. Unfortunately, a few lingering showers and storms can impact Kentucky Derby Day.
Today is a much cooler day with clouds being a bit stubborn. For areas keeping the clouds, temps may not stray too far from the 60 degree mark. Ugh.
Warmer winds return for Thursday and some late day showers and storms rumble in from the west. This brings a severe threat to western Kentucky. Here’s the Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
That’s ahead of a potent and slow-moving low that works into the Ohio Valley on Friday. That means scattered showers and storms spiraling across the region for Kentucky Oaks Day…
Some of the storms may be strong. Here’s the Friday Severe Weather Outlook from the SPC…
That low slowly pulls away for Saturday but may leave behind a few showers, especially across the east…
The trend is for drier weather to take control as we get closer to Derby time out at Churchill Downs. Temps will be held way down for highs…
This same upper level low will then spin off the southeast coastline before working back toward the Florida coast next week. That looks to help pump up a big ridge across our region next week…
A little summer preview is now likely with that type of pattern next week as the upper low keeps the pattern backed up. Woot!!
I leave you with your storm tracking tools to watch the action to our south and west…
Enjoy the middle of the week and take care.
Yesterday evening we had rain showers after rain showers and some thunder. We had over an inch of rain easily, but the nature of storms came in scattered amounts. This really helped the fire danger around our area forest.
Next week looks to be down right hot, as we will be gaining on the first 90 degrees temperature high. I’m really not ready for Summer like temperatures until July and August.
Here in my neck of woods western. KY it was a blown over no rain in which were not hurting for moisture. The farmers are out about getting there crops planted. Looks like after the next system goes by were heading more dryer and warm conditions
Yesterday was a blustery day in Central Warren County. Skies threatened in the afternoon, but we only picked up 0.07″ of rain, which fell during a 5 minute cloud burst. That ridge is promising Summer conditions at the start of next week, with local forecasts calling for near 90° temps by mid week.
We’ll see…
Tuesday morning, we had a soaking downpour that lasted for several hours here in the Chicago area, with temps only in the upper 40s and a strong NE wind off Lake Michigan making it downright miserable. O’Hare Airport received 1.31 inches of rain, and the NWS Office in the SW Suburbs received 1.40 inches.
At least the sun is out today, and it’s in the upper 50s with much less wind, but our chilly, wet Spring continues.
