Good Friday, everyone. We have a cold front moving across the state today and it’s bringing some big changes for the weekend. Strong storms today will be followed by a blast of amazing air for Saturday and Sunday. Soak it up because more heat builds in next week.
Our Friday starts with a complex of storms developing to our northwest and rolling across the state. This won’t impact everyone, but the potential is there for a few strong to severe storms through the early afternoon hours.
The Storm Prediction is highlighting much of the region with the threat for damaging winds…
MUCH cooler air then sweeps in behind this boundary tonight into the weekend. The GFS has had the best handle on this setup for days now and continues to lead the way. Highs for Saturday and Father’s Day may not get out of the 70s for many…
The lows really bottom out, especially on Sunday. The GFS continues to point toward near record lows in the 40s for the east…
Monday is a transition day as heat begins to build back in from the west.
This is likely another heat wave that will engulf the region, but we are still seeing a massive disagreement in the models on how intense this gets.
As we get closer to any event, the EURO becomes less extreme. It’s slowly shaving some numbers off what’s it’s showing for the middle of next week. It’s been showing all-time record heat around here and that’s highly unlikely.
The latest run is down a bit and will likely correct cooler in the coming days…
The GFS is more reasonable with highs in the low and middle 90s…
The Canadian is trending less extreme with highs also in the 90s…
The ground will be drier than what we had this week, so that will be a factor. There is the chance for some stronger storms late next week, though.
Here are your end of the week storm tracking toys to help bust the heat…
Possible Watch Areas
Make it a great day and take care.
I see the rain north of St. Louis, I hope it stays together.
I hope so too !!!
Not a drop of rain in Hazard today. That was my last, best hope for my gardens. I water them every day but it just doesn’t help when it’s this dry.
Goodness. We sure don’t need this heat and drought so early in the season.
