Good Sunday, folks. It’s another active weather day with rounds of showers and storms rolling across the state. These storms bring the potential for pockets of wind damage and local flash flooding along for the ride. Calm weather looks to build in into next week.

Let’s begin this weather party with what’s going on out there today. Rounds of showers and thunderstorms are rumbling across the region with an increased threat for strong to severe storms. The Storm Prediction Center has much of central and eastern Kentucky in the risk area…

Damaging winds and large hail are the main players with any severe storm, but there is a very low chance for a brief tornado spin up.

We will also be on guard for flash flooding issues to develop. These storms will be prolific rain makers and can put down a quick 2″-3″ of rain, so keep a close eye on water levels if you get under one of these storms.

Scattered showers and storms will then decrease from west to east on Monday as our upper low spins through here.

As all of this is happening, a tropical system is coming ashore on the Texas/Mexico border…

That thing is poorly organized and has run out of time to develop, but the moisture from that gets up into Texas over the next few days. Some of the models try to tap some of that moisture and lift it into the southern Mississippi Valley early next week.

At the same time, we will likely have fairly calm weather with seasonable temps across our region through the middle and end of next week.

The jet stream is likely to amplify by next weekend into the closing days of August and that could put another trough in here. You can see this on the EURO…

The end result would be an increase in showers and storms…

I have you all set to track today’s severe storms potential…
