Good Wednesday afternoon. Snow lovers across southeastern Kentucky have got to be loving the latest trend of the forecast models. The storm we’ve been telling you to keep an eye on for more than a week, continues to trend farther northwest. That means a greater impact on parts of Kentucky.
The NAM and GFS are VERY impressive with the snow totals in the south and southeast…
If the late afternoon runs show something similar… the blog may go straight into Alert mode.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the famous northwesterly trend of storms kicks in on this one? That would put more of the state in play for heavy snow. On the flip side… any wobble southeast would take the heaviest snows outside the state.
I will have another update later today. Have a great afternoon and take care.
Hope the NW trend continues even farther north……we’d love some snow in Johnson County ๐
Ahh beautiful but it will somehow manage to miss Pulaski County
Isn’t it amazing how Somerset seems to always be on the line? It’s incredible.
Let’s hope not! We’re due for some snow around here!!!
This will go north or south of areas currently marked for snow. Sorry guys, I wouldn’t want to be in the spot showing snow, until the snow is on the ground! Lol
Is this for tonight?!
Can’t figure the disconnect between the models and the forecast for Southeast Kentucky for low 40’s on THursday. It’s like two parallel universes. How can it be so different?
Sorry, forgot to include those temps are from the NWS in Jackson.
The high temps will be reached around mid morning and the temp should begin to drop from there.
Please move north!!!!!!
yeah, yeah, I’ll believe it when I see the white stuff on the ground.
Again, here we go with just one corner of the state getting snow while most go snowless again, congrats to those get it, life in the snow dome continues ๐
Sure wish we could get in on some snow! It seems like here in Carter County we couldn’t even buy some snow! It always goes above us or stays below us ๐ I WANT SOME SNOW!!!!! Old Man Winter so far has brought me nothing but disappointment!!
Better yet, a move more northwest would be awesome! Holding my breath here in Jackson County!
I am waiting for the next three events. North, east and west of central Kentucky. Bring spring! ๐
Go northwest, young storm!
Let’s have a push northeast about 75 miles! 6 inches or more might make up for the ice and mud:)
I think the bubble is over BG! We NEVER get anything…. Seriously! ๐
This would have to move about 100 miles further north to affect Louisville. We have had a snow dome over us for years. We will always get the dry slot and people north, south, east and west will get snow. It looks people to our east will get this one. Then the cold, dry air will set in. Then it will get to around 34 and we`ll get rain again. I have had around 1/2 inch so far this winter.
What???? Officially Louisville has had 3.5 inches of snow. A few weeks ago parts of Louisville had 5.0 inches on the ground. NE Jefferson County, may not of happen in your back yard but NE corridor of Louisville had 5.0 inches. In the past 10 years Louisville has had some decent snow’s. Totally disagree with your statement completely. As a matter of fact I think Louisville is one of the more fortuante city’s in KY when it comes to snow and severe weather.
Down here in southern Laurel County, we have received only a small trace of snow. Such a small amount that even when it was on the windshield, you could still see inside the car. I am looking forward to finally getting something more than NOTHING! 1/2″ is far more than we have had here. You’ve been lucky so far.
Well, if central ky shows snow on the model runs, it seems to
move north. Now watch it move south since it’s already south of central ky. Ugggghhhh.
If Only
You think this will be “wet heavy” or “light and fluffy”?.
Ever how it goes we got a generator.
Wet,very very wet…
Thanks!
That stuff is as bad or worse than ice.
I think that we CB and the other mets start doing their job and informing people about the possibilities of a storm they jinx us. CB you just put the jinx on this storm. Watch it run south! Haha j/k CB you do a wonderful job and are greatly appreciated.
LOL….The famous DT on wxrisk has pikeville 12+….
also the euro is spitting out some impressive snow fall amounts…Southern virginia 8-12…..Please little snow maker move just a little NW…
Just looked at Margusity’s snowfall area looks like far Southern East KY counties may get in on the snow every met has a different forecast I get so frustrated to be so close to the snow, Laurel County but yet so far away. And of course the temps I just can’t figure out right now it’s 38 at my house I talked to my sister in law in lives in Caryville TN she’s has a temp of 34 now that’s seems strange to me.
When will it start?
folks it not IF but how much for SE KY, im afraid be short lived poweroutages which will not be that bad.
Im confident to say 6-12 inches snow will fall from my area in CLAY CO south and east.
look for tonite evening moidels to trend futher north/NW noway missing only how much. its not going move to far south at this point. WINTER STORM WARNING issued by nightfall, the NWS are scrambling as they been caught off guard
OK pal, I’m holding you to this ๐ You have stepped WAY out on the limb!
I’m indifferent, since my area ain’t getting any, but you know you jinx yourself every time you go all 100% on these things ๐
You just started another Rolocoaster ride ๐
What are the odds tomorrow about noon Rolo posts only rain folks, nothing to see here? lol
Dream on rolo
rolo, I don’t know how things work in Clay County, but in Pike County the last time we got a heavy wet snow, I was without power 7 days, but I am rooting for you on this one.
This snow forecast for south east ky will create its on cold air from upper level cold , a lot of snow storms in the south do this, North Carolina mountains will get hammered from this storm!
LOL North, South, East, and West, I am serious you couldnt make this stuff up. Round and around the snow goes where will it stop, not in Kentucky.
Anywhere but the middle ๐
I am pessimistically optimistic at this point LOL.
LOL!!!!
Any chance of black ice/freezing fog in the morning since it didn’t clear out today? Lots of ice still on trees!
Look at this weather statement from Jackson Weather Service. I f you notice it’s from the Nashville Weather Service. Seems JWS can’t issue there own. I bet they’re scrambling right now just has Rolo stated.
Chris any idea when this Rain will wrap up for us in Eastern Ky The water just keeps rising?
yeah sucks bigtime i was counting on it ending at Midnite for some reason ๐
Andy I hope not its really up behind my house.
18z NAM didn’t trend NW. No snow for central ky ๐
You are surprised?
Looks like no chance of snow at my place. It probably wouldn’t go too well with the 8″ of mud I have anyway.
Chip Kelly and Rolo must hang out often. ๐
I love Oregon I’m staying. Oh hold on a second the NCAA is giving us sanctions. When is the next plane to Philly?
Rolo how much snow do you think corbin may get out of this one?
based on the track, if you do not get any, not many at all will in KY, save for the border area that could be territorially argued to be another state ๐
This will likely verify, based on one thing: it shows no snow for central Kentucky!
Yards, Yada, Yada….blah, blah, blah
can someone please tell me what it looks like for London Ky, and what time it is looking to start tomorrow. thanks
I read on a NWS discussion that it may change over to snow just after dawn, which may be frustrating for the schools. Here’s to hoping:)
If that doesn’t trend northwest, that’s mother nature’s sarcasm at its best!
Im sure if eastern ky gets a wsw the nws jackson will give atleast a 15 minute advance warning before the hardest of it hits
Well, my hometown (Brevard, N.C in Transylvania county) is under a winter storm warning! I’m jealous. But remember, in 1994 of January, I was still living there, and there was a winter storm warning for OUR area (not KY), just like now. What happened? MOST of KY got hammered with snow and we didn’t get ANYTHING!

kentuckyweather 18z GFS is a pretty big snow hit across southeastern Kentucky. @wkyt #kywx

question is that the VA border counties like earlier last yr or will it be SE KY
What happened to the 100% it was happening? ๐
Any hope for Johnson County?
I doubt it gets past the mountains based on the cold front pushing it away. The mountains may get some but thats it.
It apparently can’t move any further NW, as the immovable object that is the Berea Snow Dome, won’t allow it.
