Good afternoon, everyone. We are slowly coming out of this mega deep freeze we’ve been in since Thursday. Once out of the freezer, we go into the lake as a very active pattern brings a lot of rain to the region.
The soggiest setup continues to take shape from New Year’s Weekend into the first week of 2023. This map shows the overall setup…
Watch how this series of storm systems impacts our weather…
You can see how the final system showing up on that animation has more of a winter look to it.
Here’s the rainfall numbers from this same period…
The change back to winter looks to start late in week one and then really starts to show up during the second week of the year. You can see how the pattern realigns by looking at the EURO Ensembles…
Hang in there, winter weather lovers!
I’ll throw you another update this evening. Enjoy your Tuesday and take care.
Good to be adding to our rainfall deficit over the next several days. Hoping the soil thaws before the rains begin, so we won’t have a whole lot of runoff occurring.
seriously….. the 5 days we were in the deep freeze felt like 2 weeks. I’ve been seeing on the news pipes all over town bursting. I was so freaking worried about that when one of my faucets froze… I’m definitely going to buy one of those outdoor faucet covers because I think it’s somehow connected to the ONE faucet the freezes… I should have covered it before this cold snap…I think another culprit is the fact that I keep the temp at 63 in the house in the winter…most people probably keep their temp in the 70s which probably helps a lot…. But we did have the cupboard under the sink stay open and water dripping… that did NOTHING… We blasted heat for 24 hours under the sink and it started working…no leaks thank goodness
Back in the long, cold Winter in the year 1977, I had many copper pipes burst in my nursery. My greenhouse boiler had many breaks so we added antifreeze to the water after the repairs. The Winters 1976 to 1978 was known as the plumber’s nightmare. Here in this Kentucky cabin I’ve had no problem with pipes bursting and I’ve been living here since July 2008. We do have a problem now, our water is completely off due to a critical water shortage at the water plant. Never had a problem like this before.
