Good Wednesday to one and all. We have a pretty good weather day going on across the region, but more ugly is on the way. This starts with some showers and storms in here later Thursday and Friday then kicks into high gear late this weekend into early May.
Temps today reach the middle 60s for many areas and could even make a run at 70 in the west and south. Far southern Kentucky has a small shot at a shower, but much of that looks to be south of the state.
Low pressure then rolls our way later Thursday into Friday. That brings rounds of showers and a few thunderstorms in here from southwest to northeast. The models show a fairly good soaker for much of the area…
Temps spike ahead of the rain on Thursday and then stay decent into Friday as the storms become more scattered.
The weekend system is slowing down a little and that means your Saturday forecast is a bit better with temps that can make a run at 70 with just some scattered storms. The front moves through on Sunday with a few showers and storms, especially east. Tempss would then crash and take us into Kentucky Derby Week…
This is with a huge upper low that dives into the eastern half of the country, bringing much colder temps back in. How long does this upper low hang around? That’s debatable but the EURO keeps it all week…
The GFS moves it our a little quicker but it continues to see a very cold first 5 days of May. Look at how far below normal we are during this period…
A couple of frosty mornings are likely.
Temps should begin to bounce back some by Derby weekend into the following week but the models continue to advertise below normal temps for May…
The EURO Weeklies go into the first week of June. Guess what they show for the first 7 days of summer? Below normal…
Hmmm. I’ll take a tame summer.
Have a great day and take care.
I’d rather have a hot Summer. The long range models will be wrong.
Hot seems appropriate for summer, so all I ask for is sufficient moisture to go along with the warmth.
I don’t remember too many cool Summers, especially here in Kentucky. All I know is Eastern Kentucky is much cooler than the rest of the State due to elevation.
2004 was a pretty cool summer with no official 90 degree days at LEX.
If temps are below normal in summer probably means overcast skies. I hope the May & early June forecast pans out. Although I rather see below normal temps in August. If I had a choice of which month I prefer below normal temps.
Not where I was in Southwest Indiana. Only weather event I remember in 2004 was the major Snowstorm at Christmastime. Almost 2 feet of Snow on the ground on Christmas Day. How rare is that ?
