Our snow results though did an off-beat Polka while drinking stale beer.

This time of year is also one of my favorites. I like it when everything starts to green up. Don’t even mind the mowing (especially early in the year). Can’t wait until the time changes Sunday, and get a little more daylight to enjoy the outdoors after work.

I’m ready for one more good snow, and several frosts/freezes continuing through this month. We really don’t need the vegetation to advance as far as it did last year, our warmest March on record. April normally has a hard freeze or two–we were lucky last year. Average date of last freeze in Lexington in April 15.

12.75 inches of snow in east Frankfort this winter, IF we could get more than a ankel biter I would take it, but that is doubtful at this point, 60’s sound great and 70s would be even better, bugs and all !

We are probably done with snow for this winter. BTW, I think the average for the area for snow is 16″. Maybe CB can confirm or not, but other mets have quoted that amount today.
Richmond total is 4″ to 7″ total for the past two winters, with the northern part having the 7″.

7 inches last year in Frankfort but 5 was with one storm in March, A Bubba buster is still posible with the extended period looking rather cold. I know, the TREND says unlikely??
Chris Mercer on March 6, 2013 at 8:22 pm
Official NWS average for Lexington is 13.0 inches. That is a 30-year average and is recomputed each decade. So, even including the snowy years of the 80’s and 90’s the average is 13.0. Lexington whiffed last year, but might make it this year with a ankle biter. I would say the average rises in East/SE Kentucky due to the higher elevation.
BubbaG on March 6, 2013 at 8:33 pm
Several mets today quoted the 16″, so there must be some reason for the consistency. I tend to not trust the National Warming Service 😉 Of COURSE they would say a smaller number 😉

Bubba, they actually took all the data from 1981-2010 and averaged it out. I have no reason to NOT trust the NWS on this. Who else would look at thirty-year trends?
BubbaG on March 6, 2013 at 8:55 pm
All I know is we did not get much snow AGAIN where I live, so kind of all superfluous really 🙂
Chris Mercer on March 6, 2013 at 9:20 pm
Yeah–I understand your point. But, if we get another ankle biter, Lexington will have officially met their snow normal for 4 out of 5 years. This must mean the 12 inch snow threshold has moved south of Lexington?

16″??? Never more than 6 for my part of Richmond in the 8 years I have lived here. I blame Great Wall of the KY River.

The NWS was calling for freezing rain or something tonight….is that still expected?
BubbaG on March 6, 2013 at 8:34 pm
There is some drizzle in the air, but freezing rain would need clouds for the rain to be in 😉
The best part about warmer weather besides the obvious, is that the people who think they know everything about forecasting will stop posting for a few months. 😉
