Good Monday and welcome to the end of our spring fling. The weekend was nothing short of awesome and now it’s time to pay up. We have another big blast of cold air blowing in over the next few days and this should even bring a few snowflakes back into the region.
A cold front is working eastward across the state today. Showers are widespread and will continue to be into the evening hours… especially across the east. Winds are going to be gusty and may approach 40mph at times. Thermometers will hit the low and mid 50s ahead of the front then come crashing down behind it.
Some areas could pick up more than one inch of water from today’s rain.
Tuesday will see a lingering shower in the east to start as colder air bleeds in. Highs in the low and mid 40s will be common.
Another cold front drops in here Tuesday night and Wednesday morning and will bring even colder air back into the bluegrass state. Highs Wednesday may not get out of the low and 30s. To add insult to injury… the wind chill may dip into the high teens at times as snow showers and flurries kick in. Those flakes will be especially common across central and eastern Kentucky…
That’s a pretty good northwesterly wind flow setting up for a time. Let’s see if it can drop a light accumulation somewhere.
The pattern continues to look ugly this weekend into next week. The European Model is going a little crazy with a big storm threat early next week…
The pattern remains ripe for another winter storm to crank across the eastern half of the country. Here’s hoping that doesn’t impact our weather, but it’s something to keep a close eye on.
Enjoy the rain and wind of today and take care.
Weather models have really stunk it up this year. Anything more than 2 days out has been pretty lousy. Making it real hard to make plans this time of year considering that week out forecasts are jumping 10 degrees. Even the rain today has been slow arriving. Started out as a Monday rain, switched to a Sunday night event, and now looks like a Monday morning into evening event. Would hate to be a met with how the models have performed. Hopefully weather will realize that temps should be nearing 60 degrees now, and leave the 40 degree rain to January.
Somehow my forecast from NWS for Friday doesn’t seem right….look at that….Snow and 57 degrees! 🙂
ThursdayNightChanceRain/SnowLow: 33 °F
FridayChanceSnowHigh: 57 °F
wow just when I thought the next week philosophy was done, hey it rears it’s ugly head again ….. oh well, i’m taking it one day at a time for the rest of the month
Thought the same thing…..Next Week…Wow! It will be just our luck. Every one getting into spring mode and a winter storm hits. Although it is still officially WINTER!!!!!
There are worse things in life than the phrase “next week”.
The weather out there is nothing short of depressing and disgusting. And the time change makes things more miserable. Blah!
Rain is a good thing….So is the time change. Longer days!!!! Don’t you get more miserable in the fall when we fall back and it gets dark at 430 in the afternoon. Now that is miserable…
I’d rather have light in the morning. Feeding horses in the pitch dark, pouring rain and mud was no fun this morning.
The days are NOT any longer with the change. We still have the same number of hours of daylight, it just starts and ends at a different time.
From now until June 20th the days will get longer. Currenlty Sunrise is around 732 with sunset around 755….Month later it is 656 – 823 May 623-854 and June 620-907. Hours in the day always get longer during spring and summer. Yes it is darker now, but each day it should get lighter for you and hopefully drier…I am in the landscape business..I have a love hate relationship with the rain. Have a good day.
I guess what I meant to say was jumping the clocks ahead an hour does not give us another actual hour of daylight, it just gets dark later. Yes, I am grateful the length of daylight gets a little longer each day for the next few months and soon it won’t be dark at 7am. And yes I have a love/hate with the rain, too. I would love it more if it would rain in May when things are growing. Have a good day, too.
I’m with you, WendyT. I hate daylight savings time, and it is, of course, my opinion only. However, I do like this little quote I found as an analogy for DST: “Only the white man would cut the bottom off a blanket, sew it to the top of the blanket, and think they have more blanket.” DST to a T. Again, only my opinion and I know people do like it so I’m not trying to be hurt anyone’s feelings.
“not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings” Geez, I type faster than my brain thinks.
Rhonda I think a lot of people type on here faster than their brains think. 😀
You are ok in my book!
I love it when the sun doesn’t set until after 9:00pm. Right now I don’t care much for having to drive to work in the dark. But the good outweighs the bad.
really loved airing out the house this weekend and doing some early yard work, hopefully the sun returns soon and spring kicks in for good, no winter storms, I am through with this winter!
Well the weekend was very nice. Home sick today, so the rain kind of matches the way I feel. I am as ready for spring as everyone else. (That means it will probsbly snow a foot next week.) Ha! Oh well whatever comes our way we will deal with and go on. Thanks, Chris for the update.
Mom always says the weather will, to settle down till after Easter.
Will not settle till after Easter.
I’ve said all winter that the big snow will hit during Cabell county’s spring break. It’s next week……Noooooo!
Hey, did anyone else see CB’s FaceBook status? It gives a map of a storm and asks if anyone knows what it is, and that he will be talking about it a lot next week. Hmmm…wonder what he knows that we don’t?
